Heavy!

I washed the calico for the toiles for my wedding outfits the other week, but I couldn't get my head round ironing it all. Now I know why - the damned stuff is too heavy! Help!

But I just filled up the tank on the iron, cranked the heat and the steam pressure, and away I went. It's taken me almost an hour, as there were six metres of it, and it's 90" wide. I had it folded down the middle, and ironed up one side, down the other, and then opened it out and pressed out the crease... Then it all had to be folded up again before it got too crumpled to use!

Now I'm ready to cut and alter a gown pattern, two jacket patterns, and two dress patterns...

My elbows hurt! And my wrists... And most of my fingers... And I'm shaking. I think I'll leave the cutting for a while and order the fabrics I still need!

Ouch! By all means take a break from that stuff..........that is a lot of yardage to be wrestling around!!

I had a lovely break: cup of good coffee (DH made it - I always make it too strong!), and then put in an order for 23m of pure silk for customers: bill is about £320. :)

I just LOOOOOVE spending other people's money!

My wife does ironing for someone. Next time try sticking it in the freezer for a couple of hours before. She says it makes it easier for thicker/heavier fabric.

No room - mt freezers are both full of food! :)

But the steam generator tank iron makes this a breeze: the biggest problem was the weight, and theres nowt the freezer can do to fix that! :D

After handling something so big and heavy I think it's time your fingers got a work around something small and light - maybe a glass of wine? You've earned it... Enjoy!

LOL... I like that idea. Maybe even a nice glass of Australian Shiraz ;)

I read that as 'Emergency Unit' and thought How appropriate! Painkillers will be taken: after an emergency shopping day to cheer up a friend yesterday, today will be a good sewing day! or, at least, a good cutting day! I want to cut tout that Big Dress toile and those for a couple of jackets. Then I need to see how much more fabric to order for the next set of toiles. :)

James is putting away the Lego he played with all over my cutting area yesterday - I cleared off the fabric and pattern for him, so he had somewhere other than the living room floor! He was compensated for looking after dad for a day with a Lush Black Pearl bath ballistic, and I also have some of their Easter goodies for him, for a chocolate-free treat! :)

I wish! If the freezer could make things less heavy I'd climb in! Ha!

Not heavy - just easier/quicker to get wrinkles out.

Sorry Allan, I'm just kidding. Your hint about the freezer is a good one. I'll try it out next time I iron.

Hey Kate,

Where's the newest on the current bridal gown on your website? How dare you keep your fans waiting??? :-)

I've been taking a break from that one... Did the toile for the 6'2" bridesmaid*, and today I have been making three 29" cushion covers and finishing off a beanbag chair for a friend. She's coming back tomorrow for a final session on that: we didn't have enough beans! She also wants to cut out another one, so I shall dig out the pattern and we'll get to work. :) I'm hoping to get Mark II of that bodice cut out tomorrow, as James if off with a friend for the day.

I've also been acquiring two more customers: this will have to be the last two for this year, I think! :) One is coming to see me tomorrow evening. Mother of bride, wants dress and jacket. I'll do final pix of this for the gallery, but not a diary.

*I'm doing a diary page of this one too, but I dunno yet if I'll get permission for it to go out on the website. We'll see...
