Need a previously posted web-site

Ah, dunno if you happened to see a post from me a few days ago. I seem to have 'lost' quite a few posts from this ng over the last four or five weeks, although they do seem to be coming in again now thick and fast!

This is the same way this NG has been working on my computer. For the past few weeks, I have gotten few, if any, messages daily; but since last week, it seems to be back to normal, with what I think are all messages posted every day.

One can always catch up on the google archive ;->

But only if you are willing/able to wade through all the counterfeit goods spam. :-(

Traffic has been pretty slow around these parts. I am happy to see folks have resumed posting to alt.sewing, it appeared for a bit there as though it was mortally wounded.

Oh, no, no, no, no!

I may be daft, but I don't have to prove it! I kf anything that has a GG messageID, so I'm definitely not going anywhere near GG.

In its own way, Google is getting as much of an monolithic oligarchy as M$

LOL!!! Gotcha!

^^^^^^^^^^

While I do not like the increasing omnipresence of google, I think you had a swing and a miss with that word:

"An oligarchy (Greek ?????????, Oligarkhía) (oligocracy) is a form of ***government*** [emphasis added] in which power effectively rests with a small elite segment of society distinguished by royal, wealth, intellectual, family, military, or religious hegemony."

Last I checked, neither M$ nor google was a governing body. Did I miss the memo? ;-P

Dunno what happened to your post but the text looks all odd.....

Well, IMHO, both Google and M$ are vying to dominate the internet, so *if* they had their way, they would become an oligarchy. As it happens, th'internet isn't built that way, so both of their ambitions will be thwarted. But the danger's there.....

Now, back to my newly acquired 'Complete works of Plato'.(1) :-)

(1) One of this country's major booksellers has recently gone into administration, and all the stores are holding closing down sales. Apart from Plato (deluxe binding, onion skin paper) I picked up 'The Unauthorized Version: Truth and Fiction in the Bible' by Robin Lane Fox. We are studying classical history in a local study group in U3A(2) and are trying to find a suitable text book to look at the early history of Christianity - primarily in a non-theological way - as it emerges from classical Roman influence.

(2) University of the Third Age
