Gee, let's see. A newsgroup of beaders.............a kit of beads.................going well because she's made **3**.............$10 each..............email her for where to send the check or money order.

Gotta feeling she won't be getting many responses from this bunch.

that wasn't what i meant, Scott. buying kits and stringing a few necklaces - and then posting them FOR SALE in this group means she's never read anything here. if she had, she would know better.

I think I'm speaking for Veej and many others when I say it doesn't matter if a person has little or no bead skills when they start reading and posting. We all learn from one another, and everyone has to start somewhere.

The problem is that some folks post here without reading even one post, and try to sell us their wares. A lot of people here earn their living by making beads or selling beadwork, and a lot more are skilled enough that they could easily do so. Someone with a whole three necklaces' experience trying to sell things here isn't likely to receive the warmest reception.

Yes, absolutely. We welcome anyone, with little to lots of experience.

But starting to sell after making a small handful of pieces is just wrong in so many ways and on so many levels, no matter what art or craft you're doing. It's jumping the gun, it's ignorant, it's arrogant. It's career suicide. It's lunacy. It's just plain stupid.

Hi Sharleen,

If you ever come back and read the replies you've gotten, you may be taken aback... however, I'm going to give you some advice, and I hope you take it because it will benefit you tremendously in the long run.

Please stick around and read, ask questions, and participate in this group. You will learn so much from the seasoned bead and jewelry artists here! There is a lot more to bead stringing than kits, and the folks here have an awful lot of knowledge they are generally very willing to share.

It's perfectly OK to advertise your wares here, but please put AD in the header. However, posting an ad in a group you never participate in is considered bad ettiquette, and won't be very effective.

Good luck,

-Kalera

Also, generally speaking, people will want to see pictures of the work before they get to the step of sending money to you. And if you're going to do business online, consider accepting online payments in some form or another. Also, you may want to research whether the kits you have used allow for resale of the work. Some kits are for personal use only. It's better to check out some books and maybe a class, learn some skills and then do the designing on your own. After you have had some practice, then consider selling the work. The beaded jewelry business is very hard to get into because there is so much competition, so you need to stand out in some way.
