Another wonderful contribution from generous bead artists.
Did Congress ever get off its collective dead ass and pass the bill to allow artists to deduct the full value of donated works from their taxes, rather than just the cost of materials? Barbara Dream Master

Barbara, I felt the same way when Cheryl pointed out the BC auction on JustBeads. As a survivor and a frequent contributor to the S.G. Komen Foundation I would have loved to make something and contribute in that manner. Instead I've asked for a very nice birthday present and have a bid on Cheryl's beads.
So my dear, what is stopping any of us from doing similar next year? I'd be willing to contribute, host and advertise or just contribute. Cheryl????

I always hear about stuff like this too late, too... I haven't been able to keep up with wetcanvas, and when I do drop by I usually just look at the tech forum. I would have loved to be in on this one.
A couple years back, a bunch of us on rec.crafts.professional (back when the group was still active........) got off on a sock monkey tangent while discussion the sludge that finds its way into "fine art shows". We ended up with a sock money make from the wool spun and knitted by one member. Another made her dress (we named the monkey Thessolonia Monk), a couple of us made jewelry for her (that would also fit her purchaser). Someone else made a chair for her to sit in, another person a box for her to travel in. Someone else painted the inside of the box with a fireplace, etc. In short, we all went nuts. We had a ball. She was auctioned off at BMAC for CERF. The only problem was that it was too much stuff in one place! The silent auction prices just don't go that high. It was great fun, though. And money was raised for Cerf. There was talk about doing SOS (shit on a stick). You know, a upscale version of the tacky 1.00 items you see at fairs. A nice bead on a stick = a hair stick. A nice hunk of fused glass on a metal stick = a garden stake. You get the picture. It never got done. I could see it as a fund raiser for any number of worthy causes.......... Barbara Dream Master

Oh, I'll know to donate to this particular one next time, but in general, I always seem to hear about various worthy endeavors too late to contribute. I do try to donate my work to good causes whenever I can, I just am not enough "in the know" to hear about stuff, most of the time.
I LOVE SOS! Funny. I make lampwork hairsticks, I could donate! We just need to find the cause.
Sooz! Thank you, I had lost this thread somewhere and you found it!
I'm in for next October. I plan on being around for a long, long time. And any others that I may feel strongly about, you can count on me.
try to do things like this on a regular basis for various (but not a zillion) charities.<
FABULOUS, idea Sooz. I would like to suggest a possible cause, too. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah - they take all of the animals they can, and they do NOT put pets to sleep. My daughter's school goes there every year and the kids donate their time helping clean cages, etc.

How about the charity that's helped me and many other young people with ME/CFS so much? Association of Young People with ME (AYME) -

I like this idea. I also like the Breast Cancer donation because so many of us are/have/or will be effected by it. With that said, it can be my own personal project, not necessarily RCB. Could always hitch my wagon to JustBeads if they'd let me.
I'm with Tina, I definitely can handle two a year.
I'm IN!!!!

to be honest, not pc and having an unpopular opinion, much as I love animals, I'm sick to death of all the animal rights money being collected and spent when we have so many people suffering with crippling, painful diseases on this board alone, who would benefit from having a bunch of money donated to research in the medical field. Of course I live in the homeplace of PETA, who make me sick. I see millions spent on slick advertising, mailing, tv, which could make such a difference in the lives of human beings! Money that could be spent serving victims of abuse, or battered women, or women needing kilns, torches and equipment to start a new life... OK, I threw that last part in as a subliminal thought...
CERF is always a good cause. Also Susan G Komen Breast Cancer thingy (whatever it's called.) Barbara Dream Master

I agree. There was a tornado around here a while back, a couple cities away from me. There wasn't enough people and houses damaged to declare it a "national disaster" and get the much needed money that that title brings in. This was a relatively low class neighborhood and most of the people didn't have any insurance. Red Cross could only give them so much, so these people were living in homes that had no roofs and walls. Well, one city north from me (which isn't all that prosperous either) raised quite a few thousand dollars for these people, and went on the news saying that they hope it will get other cities in the county to do the same. Nobody wanted to help these people after this horrible disaster struck them, and nobody was donating money. Something like this would be a good recipient for our charity auctions. The people that CAN'T advertise about the help they need are the one's who need it the most. Another idea is to give $ to college scholarships to art school, or for people who want to further their artistic education. Just my 2 cents...
