"Making Glass Beads" + referral?

Question

With Cheryl making the referral, I bid on "Making Glass Beads" on eBay. I bid up to $17.01 (figured with the shipping, that would make retail). I lost it, and I figured "Okay, I will go to BN.com and pay retail, and get a book or two more, cuz they have $50/free shipping". Well, I went and found out that not only is the book $17.56, but if I spend $25, I can get free shipping.

So my question is, if Ken doesn't have anything to fill in the extra (gotta convince him of the purchase, anyway, LOL!), are there any recommendations of other lampwork books?

I see flameworking: creating glass beads, sculptures & functional objects. I have been looking for others, but they are kinda elusive. So just looking for other titles?

Oh, and for giggles, I went to look for used books, Cindy's first edition of this book is going for $49.00!!!

I recommend Jim Kervin's "More Than You Ever Wanted to Know About Glass Beadmaking".  It's wonderful for safety and equipment issues. Of course, I also recommend Corina Tettinger's "Passing the Flame", but that's a bit above the $25 mark.  :)  It's $75 and completely worth it.

neither one was through  but I got the "making glass beads" and digital fortress...hope I like it, because it's not the genre I usually like.  I got it, hoping Ken will like it, also, and then we can go on from there. Mary

OK, I haven't read the whole thread, so I hope I don't just repeat what everyone else said!

"Beads of Glass" (Cindy Jenkins) is absolutely chock-a-block with mind-bending eye-candy and stuff to try, but not horribly expensive. "More than you ever wanted to know about making glass beads" (James Kervin) is an absolute must-have when you upgrade to an oxy-propane torch. You may not need it now, but when you do, read it cover-to-cover, you'll be so glad you did!

"Passing the Flame" (Corina Tettinger) is an amazing step-by-step, full-color guide to basic building-block techniques, like dots, stringer, twisties, stripes, triangles, florals, and encasement. I would say that it is the one book that will advance your beadmaking skills the fastest, if you are a beginner. If you're intermediate, browse someone else's copy to see if there are any skills you missed... it will probably be useful, but I don't know that you need to own it if you already have basic techniques down pat. I'm hoping she comes out with an intermediate/advanced book at some point, because her writing style, pictures, and layout are wonderfully clear, fun, and easy to learn from. In the meantime, her "Spotlight on" magazines are invaluable mini-books packed with useful information at only $12 or so an issue.
