Those White Raven (US) beads are gorgeous, but be warned -- her stuff always reeks of cigarette smoke.

Nice selections Tina. 'Specially like the Gypsy beads.
Sad. . . Loved the glow of the teal beads.
Don't let that put you off!
I received some beads that reeked of some flowery cologne. When I opened the package I was assaulted by the smell, instant headache! I wrapped the beads with newspaper put them in a large plastic ziploc bag and fill it with more newspaper. After a week or so the smell was gone.
I also do this with rubbermaid that's absorbed smells from food (garlic!) Fill with balls of newspaper, seal and forget about it for awhile. It works, the odors are transferred to the newspaper!
If it works for cologne and cooking smells, it will work for the cigarette smoke.

Sadly, this won't work for me - I'm terribly allergic to newsprint.

True -- I just read about that in RealSimple magazine. Supposed to work fabulously. And if that doesn't do it, soak in water/baking soda afterward. After all, it is glass!

No, it isn't glass. It,s a sculptural polyclay piece (which is why I have been afraid of cleaning it too vigorously and why I suspect there is cigarette smoke
*inside* the clay from the artist smoking while it was being made).Carol in SLC My new stuff:
How about a sock full of baking soda. Same principle: let it absorbe the odors for a while and then check it again to see if you can bear it.
Is baking soda an allergen for you?

Polymer DOES absorb cigarette odors...that's why I state 'non smoking' in my auction copy. I've seen so many people get burned...sorry, couldn't resist that set-up...and make sure they know my home is smoke free.
I've not heard of any way to remove the smell to date. I hope someone posts that has more help than I on this topic.

Thanks, Jill - I was afraid of that! I sure hope that the charcoal method will work (but I have my doubts).

Hints from Heloise! Who knew?!?!?
Thank you! I'll have to try this.

polymer clay will also take up color from crepe paper---even after baking--so you may want to use newsprint paper that has no inks on it, or at least right by the piece itself. Sarajane

I've read about the newspaper trick before. It's supposed to be great for storing books in boxes. Especially if you keep them in the basement where they can get that old moldy book smell.
I smoke. So when I get polymer clay beads, I immediately put them into a small (soft) plastic container that also holds a small cache of Sooz's lavender that she sent me for my birthday. It's a wonderful smell! :)))))) So all of the polymer beads take on that odor after only a short time. Perhaps you could take a small amount of a cotton ball soaked with an essential oil and stuff it into the polymer clay bead hole.

This would be an excellent idea Linda except that I'm allergic to most of them, too. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the charcoal works.

In that case, you could gift it to another smoker?
