OT: help me understand

I have a question about the lampwork beads auctions on ebay.

Many auction listings have final bids only $0.99. The beads , which might be made in China, in each lot is about 10 - 20 pcs.

It seems to me that sellers of those auction would not make any money after the huge amount of ebay fees compared with the final bids prices.

Do they make money from those $0.99 auctions?

Give me some hint.

Thanks

Maybe they are making money on the shipping.

Or by selling a huge quantity of them... or maybe they are just starting out and trying to build a customer base.

Also, many ebay sellers start their auctions low to get attention, hoping the auction gets bid up near the end. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's a strategy that so many use, my guess is that they must average a profit.
