OT: re: news of the weird

Hugs, Lori - that must have been tough.

What I wonder is if the woman had a broken hip or something and didn't know it. Only knew that she couldn't move or something. Either way, after a day of that kind of thing, her 'caretaker' should have called someone. Certainly after a week...that poor woman.

We thought the same thing (that something could be broken) when my MIL 'fell'. She says she didn't fall. But couldn't get up. ???? She still refused to see a doctor or have one come to her and would not let the paramedics take her to the hospital to be checked out. My husband finally did make her realize it was time to do something...so it must have been pretty bad because she never agreed to anything.

All one can do is call 911 and even then, if they get there and they're non-compliant, they can't do anything.

That poor woman, is right, and not only because of the obvious physical issues, but only to imagine what went on in her head. Being that big is not about eating.

...and she was only 4'10"...

The system totally sucks when you try to get help, but no one can/will help, and then you're condemned for NOT getting help.

That kind of crap goes on a lot in the Child Welfare (and I use the term loosely) agencies across the nation.

I know. I won't even go there. Ok, maybe I will....I was a counselor in my past life...

Now that I think about it, I wonder how many of the stories they put on the news of terrible neglect had actually tried to get help and were spit out by the system. I used to counsel people where the goal was always to get the kids back to the parents. I agree that kids do best with their parents in most situations, but OMG, some of the parents couldn't help themselves and the kids still went back because the parent had completed an anger management class or 8 sessions of substance abuse counseling...doesn't matter if they made progress in the class...they showed up and finished.

I remember last year when my mother who lives 5 & 1/2 hrs away from me had a 'turn' and crawled inside and collapsed on the couch, she wouldn't let my little sister (who lives with her) call the ambulance! They live 20 minutes out of town in the country!! Fortunately, my middle sister (who won't take 'no' for an answer) arrived within the hour and ordered mum to get in the car! She was going to the doctors!! Mum had had 4 strokes!!!

Sometimes we need to be firm with our parents - especially when their health is involved... I know that my mother thinks she is being a bother to everyone sometimes and needs a good smack upside the head!!!
