OT - taking a break from beading & going to the movies

It's really hot here in NJ and since I don't have central air conditioning, sometimes I keep cool by going to the movies. It also refreshes my visual sense and relaxes me. I much prefer to see movies in a theatre rather than at home.

I've seen two good ones lately and thought I would post these in case anyone is interested. Today I saw "The Lake House', very romantic film with Sandra Bullock & Keanu Reeves. I wasn't sure how the time scheme thing would work, but it does and I enjoyed it a lot.

I saw "The Break Up" several weeks ago. Really enjoyed the humor, it appeals to both male and female senses of humor. It, like the "Lake House" is set in Chicago. Chicago is almost a character in "The Break up", what a beautiful city.

I haven't seen either, but want to see both, but will be waiting on the dvd's. I only go to the theater when I need the "big screen" effect for the visual impact...like in "Superman Returns". Sitting in a theater seat for a couple of hours plays havoc with my back.

It's fun for me to see the city showing up in so many movies.

Last year, there was a big to-do at work (Univ of Illinois) because so much of a Will Farrell/Dustin Hoffman movie was filmed on campus, some of it in the building I work in.

Cheers, Carla

How cool! That would be interesting to get to see a little of it being made.

Our book club took a break from books and saw The Lake House a couple of weeks ago. Not my usual type of movie, but I really enjoyed it!

If you liked it, you should read The Time Traveler's Wife (also set in Chicago and also a love story that spans time).

Carla,

We saw Superman Returns on Saturday night. Wait for the $1 theatre is my opinion...or at the very least, matinee pricing. It wasn't very good.

I have read "The Time Traveler's Wife." My favorite time travel book is an older one by Daphne DuMaurier called "The House on the Strand". Some of our other librarians read the Diana Gabaldon's books, which I don't like. I find her books ponderous. Patti
