Please give your feedback

My wonderful friend, Margie, has put up two shots of my very first necklace, complete with my own pressed flower medallion. Please check it out at:

and give me your unvarnished feedback. The beads are from the craft store, nothing super expensive and totally plastic, I assume. The thread is from Dr. Sooz. The findings are barrel and probably could be upgraded to something nicer? The medallion is 1.4 inches across. It is polymer clay, cupping a resin encased arrangement of three pressed flowers. The resin changed the color of the flowers somewhat, this time for the better in my opinion. The polymer clay that is not covered by the resin is covered in copper leaf.

So, your comments on construction, artistic merit, salability and possible pricing would be deeply appreciated!

I like it, just wish the picture was clearer

I love it. The ideas are swimming now. Are you selling the medallions?

Well, we are still developing the product line.....but plans ultimately include offerings via ebay for finished jewelry pieces. If there is indication that medallions alone might also sell reasonably well I will certainly offer them. We are working on various shapes, sizes and what they are made out of. At this point nearly everything is an experiment!

I will work on that somewhat later today, so maybe that will help. With my eyesight it is hard to tell that I don't have a really clear picture sometimes.

Fantastic. Please keep us updated. I would love to use a couple of those. And also, feel free to throw the experiments my way. LOL

I fooled around with the two pictures you sent me, Aula. Take a look at your album when you get a chance.

Oh, you did! Very nicely done, too. The dark one has more accurate coloration of both beads and flowers, but I still like the other pic better. Somehow it seems crisper to me. But, then again, I really need my eyes checked again [not for the MD, just for a new script]. Thank you, again, for helping me share these pics with these experts. It is really appreciated.

I am not generally a flower person, but I would wear those! Very classy looking! I would personally like the medalion no larger than 1-1.5 inches across, don't know the measurements of yours. In the picture the beads look like glass, which are prefered over plastic. Anything plated turns green on some people, I like gold-filled findings. Hope this helps, but like I said, I'd defintely wear the necklaces you made just as they are, they're beautiful. Keep up the good work!

I will watch for that, would love to buy them alone and work it into a piece of my own, as well as buying your finished work. Good luck, and post back here when any are available, I'd love to see them, as I'm sure everyone would.

Thank you for the encouragement! I've checked back on the packaging on the beads and learned that they are glass, not plastic, so that is one plus. I am not certain if the findings are gold filled, and have already discarded the packaging labels. The medallion is 1.5 inches across. We are working on various sizes, including some smaller in ceramics. I will let folks know when some are on ebay!

Aula, you have made a wonderful piece of art! I agree with the others...selling medallions individually could be profitable for you as well. Let us know if/when they become available and good luck!!!

Just lovely, Aula.

Two changes I would make:

~ I wouldn't use a barrel clasp. They come undone without warning (just from the movement of the wearer over time). They pinch sometimes. They're difficult to fasten for some people.

~ Don't use Silamide for strung necklaces -- it's for beadweaving and bead embroidery. Use a line such as SoftFlex -- much better for this usage. ~~ Sooz

Thank you very much for that very concrete advice. It helps loads [as well as your post in my other thread/question about findings]. I have already restrung the necklace on something much more durable [have to look at label to tell you exactly what it's called, though!]. I'm much happier with that. Then there is the question of the clasp. I've looked in the local craft shops for something that is more like what I've seen on beader's web sites and have not seen a thing. Sigh. But, that only means I should look further [like on line!].

More experiments in progress!

You might want to consider making your own clasps out of wire. There are boatloads of tutorials out there, and then you can be sure that your designs are completely your own.

If that's akin to "growing your own wheat for bread" to you, I really like the selection at

They have some beautiful things there, and the prices for sterling silver are usually less than the craft stores' price for base metal.
