strange customer remarks at craft fairs

I've had some really strange remarks said to me while I sat at my booth/table. And, I was wondering if you have had the same experience. I'll start - 1. Do you paint these beads (natural gemstone beads), marked with the name of the stone. 2. You must be making a lot of money. After all, these tables are free, right? This at a show which cost about $100 per table. 3. Does your husband help you do this??? (Hardly. And he wasn't even there) 4. Why don't you have any jewelry for men? Are you a female chauvinist? 5. Look at the wire wrapped around the stone. (I explained the process) Customer said, "WELL, isn't that artsy-fartsy!! 6. My friend recently started making jewelry. I want you to tell me exactly how much she should charge for it. NO 7. When I still did Photography, a customer argued with me over the location of the shot I'd taken. It was the Snake River in Idaho. He told me it was the Ganges in India (where I've never been.) Gotta love this business!!! rofl. Anyone else?

Oh, yeah -

"where do you get the flower decals?" "do you just glue the flowers on?"

It's okay - people unfamiliar with a type of art can only gain knowledge by asking! :D But it does make me laugh sometimes.

ha..that's funny, about the jewelry for men. Next time, just pick up your girliest piece and say "but I DO make jewelry for men..not my fault if they're all insecure and won't wear it!"

Thats a good response! I have gotten a lot of "How do you get the flower in there?"

I love the remark said in my hearing, "Lets do that a Brownies/guides next meeting" I hope my work is just a bit more difficult than that and worthy of being my idea, an original.

LOL Patti, those are good ones. My folks and I do Christmas craft fairs and haven't really encountered anything that funny, but we have had funny customers. Last year we added shortbread cookies to our table and one of the vendors came over and loudly declared "Shortbread! Goes right to your hips!" and then she grabbed her butt. *rolls eyes*

I sell my artwork and the most common comment is "Did you do that?" This comment has always mystified me, especially if I'm actually drawing something at the time. :-D

ah yes..the comments of the clueless.

Just the other day, I was killing time by working on a peyote tube that'll eventually become a lariat. As I was sitting there working on it (I was at my desk at work), one of my co-workers wandered by, paused, and said "Hey, how are you turning those tiny beads into that big fat cord???"

He actually thought I was just stringing the beads, and they were somehow magically turning much bigger than they were before being "strung".

That's the main reason (besides boredom) that I always bring a beaded piece to work on while doing a crafts show.
