A question about thread

Okay, two weeks with the machine and I have about 100 spools of thread, almost equally divided between rayon and poly and of course......

I don't have the color I need!!!!!!!!

So how many spools of thread do y'all have?

Different kinds of stabilizers?

Number of hoops?

etc, etc., etc.

BTW, is it bad form to mix rayon and poly in the same stitch-out?

Pearl ~ chuckling as I head to bed to dream about my new money pit.

Brace yourself, unless you buy an entire line of 7,000 spools of thread you never will. And if you do buy all those at once you will find that when you get into another project you will have run out of the color you need. I have found that if I have a color that is CLOSE on some projects I will use that. When it's all done it works just fine.......so far.

No matter how many colors of thread I have I always need another color......fact of life, it's just another form of STASH. I never count my spools of thread, is would be as depressing as counting celulite dimples. What you don't know won't depress you ;-)

I bet I aquired about a dozen different stabilizers, three of which I actually use the most

A teeny little tiny baby hoop, used it twice, the regular hoop I use often and the big hoop, I use it the most. If my son would hurry up and get some babies instead of picking up animals at the shelter I might get my investment out of that teeny little tiny baby hoop.....sighhhh

I seemed to have aquired the etc., etc.,etc. stuff everytime I took another class (the tiny hoop for example), the majority of which I haven't used other than with the class projects, seemed like a good thing at the time. After staunching the flow of blood gushing from my checkbook I decided that I'd 'sleep on it' before buying more gadgetry, gizmos, specialty materials, items and such. Consequently I have slept better and spent less with this tactic. I decided against the digitizer software because I KNOW I just wouldn't use it that often, I can buy a lot of stuff for what that software costs. I'm not a gung-ho embroiderer anyway. I like it, I use it, but most of my sewing is actual sewing, not embellishing. I have purchased about four designs in five years, the rest I have gotten free from classes I've taken or promotions or freebies off the net. Ann the Gran RULEZZZ!!

I have, maybe a flower or something in rayon, the leaf or ribbon in poly, I don't see where it makes a difference as long as you are happy with how it looks. That's just my personal opinion. I really don't know if there's a technical reason for not doing this or not, I can't remember.

Money pit is a very appropriate name......aint it FUN!!! LOL

Well you asked! My son had an embroidery business but decided a change of lifestyle was in order so headed off to Tasmania and gave me most of his supplies, some went with the equipment which he sold.

At a rough count I have 80 boxes of Madeira each holding 10x1000m spools, not all are full. Also about 100x 5" cones of mostly Marathon, 11,000 yds each (when they were new). And no I never have all the colors I need. Stabilizer 3 long rolls..... 1 tearaway and 2 cutaway. Two shorter rolls cutaway. Plus a roll of solvy. Hoops, 4 with Brother, I use the 6" x 10" the most. 2 with the Pfaff 7570 which I never use. I often use both rayon and polyester on the same design.
