Tip: Small strips of thin, clear vinyl can be cut to fit around spools of thread to keep the ends from getting messy and unwinding when not in use. It also prevents the thread from drying out so fast. The vinyl can be purchased at most fabric stores by the yard (I got mine in the remnant bin). Cut it just a bit longer than the circumference of the spool and wrap it so that the ends lap over each other.
