Brother PC-8500 bobbin issue

I've been following this newsgroup for a while, but have never found anything on this problem. Am I the only one, or have others run into it?

I have a Brother PC-8500, which I like very much. I wind my own bobbins, with Brother bobbin thread.

I was buying compatible bobbins (not exactly the same), but I found, as I wound them, they would sometimes split. You could hear slight cracking noises as the bobbins were wound. I overlooked it at first (the bobbin was more warped than split) and had some tension issues until I realized the bobbin was cracked and uneven.

So, I bought a bunch of true Brother bobbins on eBay. They seemed stronger, but again, last night, while winding a bobbin, I heard the slight cracking noise, and, sure enough, the bobbin popped wide open, into two parts.

I don't think the bobbin tension is too high, because, when the bobbins _don't_ crack, I get excellent results on the stitch-outs. But I can't believe bobbins are meant to have that short a life. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have a Brother PC7500. When I wind bobbins (the plastic brother ones) with regular polyester sewing thread I have no problems. When I tried winding them with the lingerie thread (I use it in the bobbin when I embroider) I had bobbins explode. Now I wind the ones with the lingerie thread sortof by hand. I put the bobbin on the machine peg and make it spin with the machine's power but I don't put the thread thru the machine. I stand the thread spool on the veritcal peg and just run it thru my fingers. This lessens the tension enough. Since I started doing this I haven't had any bobbins pop - and I've used lots. Not high tech but works really well for me

Genuine Brother bobbins and Brother thread should not cause a problem. If they do then there is something wrong with the bobbin winding mechanism. If you want the best bobbins for the machine buy NEBS, they are the best on Brother machines. Liz

Which machines do the NEBS work on, or do they have them in different styles for all machines? DUH
