Good Luck!!! I had an ULT 2001 with the same problem. Since I live close to the Bartlett, TN Headquarters, I took my machine straight to them. They "worked" on it 3 separate times and NEVER got it to stay fixed. Last time I told them if they couldn't get it repaired so that it would stitch out more than one or two designs, I wanted it replaced. They said "no problem". It still wasn't fixed so they said they would replace it. Went about 3 months with no replacement. Called the head of customer service in Bartlett...asked what I had to do to get the machine...call an attorney or what... She said she would call me back within the hour. She had to research the history of my machine. She called back in 15 minutes and said my new machine would be available the next day. The dealer called me a couple of hours later and said they had my "new" machine. They couldn't believe I had actually gotten one...said I must be a squeaky hinge... LOL Didn't get another 2001...there were none available in the States, but they replaced it with the 2002D... So, if you take yours to a dealer for repair, keep after them... Test it as soon as you get it home and make sure it's gonna do more than 1 or 2 designs before it goes back to doing the same thing... Brother seems to have a really bad tension problem..

Test it in the store. Insist that you be allowed to bring your own fabric, designs, thread, and stabilisers. Then do more than 2-3 designs, take your time and ask to be alone when you test. Having some one hanging over you is just frustrating. Husqvarnas have the worst tension problems with the embroidery machines . I have heard of Brother replacing machines without too much of a hassle. Try to get that from HV or Pfaff and good luck. I have had customers with the Pfaff/HV embroidery machines which are rank with problems and had to fight to get replacements from HV. The only model that they replaced over and over was the Pfaff 2054, I think HV knew it was a dud from the beginning. One customer was on her 4th machine and switched to Janome. Babylock and Singer are also good about replacements if there is a history of problems.

Ok check it out, We set the tension down on 2.0 and it works fine.. Letters and designs look good.. Now my ? is, Is it ok and normal to run at this setting?? And that guy at Brother said if you do not use brother bobbin thread that it would throw it out of calibration but that dosen't sound right cuz we have been using marathon bobbin thread in our 180d machine for 2 years and no problems... As for tring it out, the dealer I got it from is in New Jersey and I am in Missouri so it might be worth the extra cash to take it to a local dealer...The money I saved might be worth spending it local cuz our dealer wanted $3700 +tax with just pe design 5.0 and we got it for $2700 no tax and no shipping + pe design 5.0 and alot of free accesories...

When I started having trouble with my tension, I set it at 2 also. That worked for a while, then it started doing the same old thing again. I have always used NEB bobbins and they are no trouble as long as the machine works properly. I used them in a 8500, they worked fine; used them in the 2001, they worked fine as long as the machine was working properly. Used them in the 2002D replacement machine and never had a problem. Now I even use them in my commercial machine...Never a problem. Here's a good one...once while Brother had my machine, trying to fix it, one of the technicians said "Why don't you use the same color bobbin thread as top thread. That way you won't see the bobbin thread." Can you imagine having to change your bobbin every time you change colors????? Guess they think if you can't see it, it ain't broke... Think your local dealer is bad??? My local dealer sold me my 2002 for $5,200.00. Of course, it came with PE Design 4.0. Needless to say, I no longer buy anything that has a BROTHER logo on it... Good luck...

Whatever tension works is the right one. Each and every machine is set different. When you set tension there really is not beginning mark that you work from. My Pfaff7570 embroiders on 1 and sews on 7. Normal???? yes for my machine. When I set tensions I would ideally like to have the range from 2-3 but sometimes the machines just will not allow that and the range is much steeper with some even being the exact same for both functions. It is when we cannot set the tension at all and have to go in a hold one part while we spin the other to get a reading. I recently put a new tension dial in a school machine, I did not have the correct dial, but had one that the teacher said to use. It is completely backwards. The kids on this machine are now sewing at 9 and embroiderying at nothing as the numbers are buried in the back of the tension fitting. Brother bobbin thread is made by Coats and Clark.....The guy is talking through his hat and trying to promote sales.
