You need to use your computer to run the embroidery unit, I believe you need XP.
I would look at a Viking that has stand alone embroidery, you can load any designs a go to town.
you will only be able to make things smaller than 6.5"x3.75" with Singer
You do need your computer to run the embroidery end of the machine with an operating system of Win98 or higher and a free USB port.
Win95 will not support USB ports or drivers. Win98 needs a special driver to support USB. Win2K and newer has built in USB support. (according to the latest memory key I bought today)
