Not sure what price you're paying for a gallon of gas but here in the UK we're looking at

£1.11 per litre or £5.55 per gallon or $11 per gallon

Diesel fuel is more expensive again. This breakdown of the price of petrol is based on the assumption of £5 (approx $10) per gallon so it's a bit out of date:

a.. Petrol Fuel Duty - £2.40 ($4.80)

b.. VAT (17.5%) - £0.75 ($1.50)

c.. Refinery Petrol Costs - £1.59 ($3.17)

d.. Forecourt Costs - £0.15 ($0.30)

e.. Forecourt Profit - £0.10 ($0.20) I take on board what Dennis says about the price of gas keeping vehicles of the road and you would think it makes sense however I'm not sure it works.

It certainly doesn't here in the UK where the 'car is king' mindset prevails.

There is no depression...other than the media making us believe there is. There's plenty of oil. Speculators are driving the price. It's all a domino effect and it ain't gonna get better. It'll all level out but you'll never see $2 gas or $2 milk. That's the way it is, folks!

In northern NH we're at $4.59 a gallon for diesel. We get 33% better mileage than the gas equivalent vehicle, but we now pay 31% more for the fuel... not enough savings to even pay for the more expensive oil changes.

Hydrogen isn't an energy *source* but a storage medium like batteries. The energy to "create" the hydrogen is merely converted from some other primary source. If you use petro to create hydrogen to burn in an engine, the overall carbon footprint is larger than if you'd just burned petro in the first place. If you use nuclear to create the hydrogen on a large scale, it places higher demands on the natural gas/coal electric plants, so in the big picture, again, you burn more fossil fuels to get the hydrogen.

Solar produced hydrogen *sounds* like a winner, but it takes a LOT of energy to manufacture solar panels. More than you'll ever recoup in 25 year life expectancy of the panels themselves. (Why do you think solar panel manufacturers don't use solar energy to power their factories? ... they'd lose money if they did)

So, PV solar results in a net increase in CO2 as well. Using PV electricity to create hydrogen just serves to lower the overall efficiency that much more.

Without some fantastic new technology, hydrogen isn't even close to being any kind of answer to anything.

Yeah, No Kidding....!

If the price of Gas is cause for real economic concern for Americans right now, then what exaclty are they going to do when they have to pay the prices we are, or the insane prices that Europe pays ? This summer is going to be interesting to say the least....

Lest we forget that those 'cheap tomatoes' and other veggis from chile will no longer be coming in 'as fresh' as they used to...

Actually, I don't think that was me but I'll humour you just the same. You see, unlike your internet of the 90's, we here are connected by Fibre-optics across the ENTIRE country. No Lag in bandwidth, no latency issues and no meltdowns like you have in the US (Verizon Anyone ?) I live in the first city in all of North America to be connected through large pipe OC and I pay a 50 bucks a month for a 25 megabit connection. Now you tell me why, who or how the same IP appears ? Stop looking at the host. It's really that easy. Now since the Host is behind Firewall/Proxy, etc, and so too are we behind our own Firewall's (router) you don't see the "Actual IP Address" for each person's computer, and let me assure you, we all have our OWN IP address. It was explained in a prior thread anyway.....

Suck on that Idiot,

Oh, and next time, be a REAL man and put your Money where your mouth is and stop having Google remove your postings from the ARCHIVE. (Afraid your ass-shaving buddies might see it and get their panties in a twist ?......)

As has been said before. Nobody but Dennis uses the Dennis posting host on usenet and nobody but Jason uses the Jason posting host on usenet. It doesn't really matter whether they're "proxies" or not. They still work just fine as unique identifiers.

Yes, please pay attention.

ditto.

I don't post to google.
