i found this on the ERSA website...apparently it's not for stained glass production, but general info forall soldering irons...i've always been told to NEVER use flux core solder...but i think thatonly refers to glass work..does this info help to maintain the quality of your soldering iron'stip?what do you think?there's a picture on their website as well: that the ERSADUR soldering tips are properly cared for, tiplife can be extended. The following steps should be taken: ERSADUR tipsshould always be coated with solder. Without this coat, they becomepassive and will no longer accept solder. In this case, the tip can bereactivated with flux and solder. To do this, wrap flux core solderaround the soldering tip and heat the iron. In addition to this, thehot tip should be cleaned regularly with a moist sponge. Spare spongesare available in specialized trade.arlene

Flux, or worse yet rosin core solder is nasty stuff and should beavoided. We use the mildest water soluble flux we can get. Unless your tipis solid copper, it's only thinly plated. NEVER use anything caustic on it.Once the plating is corroded the tip is garbage. Despite what anymanufacturer tells you, most original tips will never need to be replaced.The iron will be dead before the tip goes. IMHO--JK Sinrod

I'll bottom post for you Java...just this once. :-) you can't change the way people behave on the internet. You got a billion folks out there from all over with all different ways of doing and saying something. No one is right and no one is wrong . This netiquette thing is old school and no matter that even I like it, it still old school and is going by the way side. Just like posting in the group...you can have the rules you want but there's no one here to enforce them. A few years ago a bunch of hooligans got in here and took over for a week. I've seen several newsgroups eventaully die because of that. Mr Google doesn't care and won't do anything about it. Try as you might...things are changing to the new school and it's just da way it is.
