a needlework 'never'

I had to learn the hard way. I had a piece of finished needlepoint at my desk, doing some frame measuring, and, long story, I got some ink from a gel pen on it. On the white part of course. So, now gotta tear it out, try to get the ink off the canvas with mild diluted shampoo, restitch or else change the design to work in some dark shade.

It will NEVER come near the desk again.

Maybe someone here will learn from my stupidity.

Perhaps you have a good office supply shop near you? Many of them sell 'ink remover' in small desk-sized bottles. I have used this sort of product several times when a pen leaked in my shirt pocket. Some of them work VERY well! (Of course... others don't work at all!)

I tried the shampoo treatment - got it pretty light - will try the white yarn again and see how bad it looks. Maybe I will even apply a bit of that liquid whiteout first.

Be very careful with using white out. It can turn very yellow over time.

You're reminding me of why I said I'd never leave a bag with needlework beside the sofa again. Because one day the coffee cup fell over. That's right. All by itself. Had nothing to do with the klutz drinking from it. Of course I have begun to leave bags there again. And this is why I shouldn't.

Good luck on the ink removal.

And thanks for the reminder! Donna in Virginia

Or the coke that my friend messed up for me when she tripped and splattered coke all over a white on white needlepoint I did some years back. It never came out completely.

Did you try to tint it something in the ecru family? I did that to a crewel pillow which had a stain on the natural background. I gave the whole pillow a bright yellow tint which hid the stain and honestly made the pillow more cheerful looking. I didn't alter the design colors so that I noticed.

I shampooed the area, restitched it in white, then tied a small bow onto it to hide that remaining slight tinge of blue. It worked ok into the design. You mean you've never seen a cat with a bow at the base of his tail? : ))

I have seen cats like this. Usually being followed by small laughing children as it bounds through the house...
