Airplane question

Hi all, I've been lurking for a while having nothing really to say or ask until now, forgive me please.

Here's my question: "Are needles allowed on planes?" I know that scissors are now illegal but what about needles?

Thanks in advance Julie-Ann from Jamaica

I have never had a problem with tapestry (blunt) needles at the airport. Blunt scissors are allowed. I use a clover cutter. My wife never has a problem now with her knitting needles. I have traveled both within the US and internationally.

Thanks for that. As long as you've never had a problem I don't think I will then.

Thanx again Julie-Ann Jamaica

A needle will be cheap enough to replace at least. You should be aware that different airports, or even different screeners at the same airport, interpret the rules differently. Be prepared to check or lose anything and don't bother to argue about it.

Alright I will. I won't get into serious trouble about a needle now will I? It's so small not to mention blunt.

Thanks, Julie-Ann Jamaica

My suggestion would be to go to the Transportation Security Administration website for the latest list of prohibited items. This is their website:

formatting link
on "Travelers & Consumers". At the next page you can click on "Air Travel", then "Prohibited Items". This will give bring you to a pdf file. Last time I flew I wanted to take knitting needles and took a copy of the list in case any of the screeners tried to keep me from bringing them in my carry-on. Of course, since I was prepared there was no problem.I hope this helps you (and any other travelers). Robin

You won't get in trouble. I mistakenly went through with a Swiss Army Knife once. You just have to let it go if they decide you can't keep it (or turn around and check it). I sincerely doubt they'd ever question a sewing needle. It was more the scissors I was thinking about. I've heard even blunt and clover scissors have been confiscated on occasion.
