I'm a little confused with your question. Are you trying to make a cross-stitch pattern to embroider with your machine or one to do by hand?
Pattern Maker does have software for making XS charts - this link shows the one that gives traditional -stitch by hand charts:

This group is about doing hand needlework, though we do get blurbs from people selling machine embroidery software. There are a lot of places out there with machine embroidery info.
