Is it legal with this group

But not to share them with other people. And since there is a mechanism for the owner to get paid, it's not theft. If I pay for something, and no one collects it's not theft. If I don't pay, then it is.

If I remember correctly, Fred, that was one of the reasons(among others) MLI didn't want stitchers to post photos of their finished TIAG patterns. She felt that people could copy from them.

Part of the stipulation is that once copied, what is done with the copies if beyond control. I can freely give them to friends.

But you have still paid for them - if you want to give copies to your friend you have to pay for those copies as well. This is exactly like buying a magazine and giving it to a friend. You have paid for it. What is so difficult about that?

We are talking about copying or scanning a pattern and not paying the copyright fee. Copyright laws vary from country to country but I know of none, including very clearly from the information you have given, yours where it is legal to copy and not pay a copyright fee.

In Canada we pay a surcharge on blank CDs, DVDs, tapes and even MP3 players which permits us to legally download and copy music and video. As least until the laws are changed which might not happen now that the election has been called.

It's illegal to upload but not to download.
