I read the article and my first thought in the first paragraph was why isn't this playing in the news? And then I realize that the article is

6 years old. And I do remember reading/hearing about the accidental shooting of these soldiers 6 years ago.

So what exactly is your point?

Do I have to have a point ? If I do, I would say that the article is true - when I was in the UK the ONLY Canadian news I heard was that St Harper had been re-elected with a slightly larger minority government. BTW, even your court decided the shooting of those soldiers was not 'accidental' - it was cavalier, they had been told not to drop a bomb. Excuse me anyway, I realize it is not good to say anything nice about Canadians, especially not if Americans are around, we just don't count, in your opinion. The article is as valid today as it was then in case you haven't noticed, except that many more young men and women have died in Afghanistan since then.

Thanks for the link; I hadn't seen this article before, and it's nice to be reminded that we're not completely invisible.

Canada's problem is relatively to easy comprehend; we are a regional power, with no region to exercise power over. Our "region" is dominated by the USA. Other regional powers, e.g. South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, exert a significant effect outside their borders. Canada does not. So the rest of the world takes little notice of us; thank heaven, I say.

I can't comment on this. Never been to the UK, but I want to go.

I believe they were told to "hold fire," which they did for 35 seconds. I'm not saying that was enough. I'm not excusing the pilot and his wingman in this action. The initial manslaughter charges against them were dropped. The pilot was convicted of dereliction of duty and the wingman had all charges dismissed. I think in this case "cavalier" is not the proper word. It certainly wasn't accidental as in "oh my finger slipped." I used the word "accidental" to mean they did not intend to shoot Canadian soldiers, but thought they were shooting at the enemy.

Please. Say nice things about Canadians. Both of my grandfathers were born in Canada. I've been to Nova Scotia and PEI. I love the place. I appreciate the Canadian troops who often fight alongside the Americans. My husband's battalion in Germany had a great relationship with a Canadian engineer unit. Say more nice things. The world will be a better place.

I think I've noticed. I've watched my friends and family go over there. I personally know people who didn't come back. I'm sorry that more people don't notice.
