How in the world???

Okay, all you creative ladies and gentleman, here's one for you....I want to do an album for my son who just turned 21. I want it meaningful...not playful so much. I plan to include things like what I felt about being pregnant, the cute things he used to say, how proud I am of the man he's become. That's not the problem. The problem is that I was hoping to incorporate his favorite color, which happens to be a deep purple. How in the world do I do that when few of the pictures are likely to have purple in them? Do I just forget that and just try to find a nice neutral color or what??? HELP!

I think I would have the back ground his favorite color and use a neutral color to border the pictures and quotes.

You could change the pictures to black and white using your scanner or at a Kodak machine or anywhere you get pictures developed - black and white pictures look so classy and would look great on a purple background!!!

Selena,

You could also use the deep purple as your matting for every photo in the book, which would tie it all together and then use either complimentary or contrasting colors for backgrounds and embellishments. You son is going to love whatever you do so don't feel bound necessarly by "traditional" LOs. He'll get a kick out of seeing that deep purple on every page, knowing that you recognize it as his favorite. And we all recognize that he's going to love whatever you do regardless of the perfectness or lack thereof regarding page design and LO. It's the love you put into it and the memories it will envoke for both of you. Also, I think of deep purple as being a rather serious color rather than playful and depending on how you use it, it can be very masculine. Good luck whatever you decide upon.

I hadn't thought about changing them to black and white. That's a great idea!

I'm hoping that I can make him tear up a little. :)

Along the same lines you could do the book as a *monochromatic purple* using

3 or 5 shades of complementary purples from deep to pale. It usually makes a statement and whenever I've seen it done, it was very pulled together no matter what the pictures were.

Just a thought...

Hmmm Selena, I can tell you what I have done in this situation...I tried to keep the same color/pattern of paper and to further the continuity..I have matted with the same color on each page. Maybe use different shades of purple for mats. One of my favorite LOs I did last year was with mixing patterned pastel papers. I cut the papers in blocks like a quilt and was really pleased with how much people liked them. In another instance, I copied all of my pictures in black and white and used the same color for all the pages in the album. I used the same embellishments throughout and it tied them together nicely. What ever suits you will be right.

Yeah, I'm kind of thinking of doing the pictures in black and white and use just purple. I also though of using stars as my embellishment of choice (he likes stars), just different types of stars throughout. I think it would look really nice that way. (I hope :)).

hmmm. I'm thinking of turning the phodies to b&w and giving it a heritage feel. Dark purple will work great with that. Also you won't have a more grownup feel instead of "cutsy" even when you use the baby pics. HTH! :))
