Fabric Search HELP!!!

Ok here's the deal. I have three baby quilts to make. One of the PA's in my doctors office is expecting in November so I need to make her a baby quilt. Also, some friends, the guy does contract work for DH's company, are expecting twins in December or January. So I need to make them two quilts. I found some adorable baby print fabric at Joann Fabrics. The first time I found it DH had me on a fabric diet so I couldn't get it. When I was finally able to get it, they had the pink, blue, green and purple but no yellow. So now I'm in search of the yellow print. Here's the stats on it:

Baby Basix Sheep print - yellow

They have this type print with baby booties and sheep and I chose the sheep. I have looked in three different JAF's on Long Island, one in Tampa, FL and my girlfriend in Iowa has checked stored in Des Moines & Council Bluffs Iowa and Omaha & Lincoln Nebraska. We have not been able to find the yellow sheep print anywhere.

So I'm wondering if anyone here would be willing to help me find this fabric? Please, please, pretty please with sugar and a cherry on top of the whipped cream please. Oh yeah, I've looked online too and had no luck. So I need help. If anyone can find this fabric for me I would greatly appreciate it. It costs $3.99/yd and I need two yards. I will send a check for the fabric and postage along with something extra for the trouble if anyone can find this fabric and get it for me. Email me at tajmahal56 at hotmail dot com if anyone is willing to help me with this endeavor. Thank you all.

question.... why do you need more of the same design? why not just find a yellow that works with those fabs you already got. will give it more interest and a place for the eye to rest if you use a different fabric i'd think. being in NZ, i know there is such a thing as too many sheep. NZ used to have 40million of them when there was only 3.5 million people. eeeeeeek. lol :)) just my thots, jeanne

There are 32 pages of quilting fabric there; might be something you want; quite a few on sale. Polly

Mika, if I needed to make 3 baby quilts, I'd want to use different fabrics for each of them. Are you planning on the same design for all of them? What about co-ordinating some other fabrics to work with the yellow sheep fabric that you do have and including the yellow in all 3 quilts, if that is what you want to do? I think that you would have less of a headache at the end of 3 quilts if you don't stress over lack of a particular fabric at the outset. Yellow and turquoise is pretty or yellow and green; yellow is pretty with most colours that I can think of. jennellh (change the mail to news)

I'm not Mika but, since someone else mentioned this, I would be willing to bet that a bunch of us missed Mika mention that she is making quilts for a set of twins. I just assumed she wanted the same fabric but in different colors so the the quilts for twins would be the same but still different. I bet a lot of us missed mention of the twins in her post :-). lol Jeanne, with all the sheep there I can see where you would want something different. I have patterns tentatively picked out for the three quilts and they will all be different, yet at least two of them will have all five sheep print colors in them. I want the quilts for the twins to be alike yet different. They will be different in the pattern that they are made from. I'm going to use handdyes for the other fabric. Also, when I lay the fabric out together it just doesn't look right to me without the yellow and I think that any other print in yellow would throw it out of balance. At least in my minds eye when I picture what my final goal is a different yellow print just doesn't work. I went to JAF yesterday and looked. I thought about getting a yellow plaid, check or stripe and it just didn't compute with what I want. The third quilt I haven't completely decided on yet. Hope this helps explain the method behind my madness. lol.

I've looked Polly and not had any luck. I have searched that site so many times hoping each time that a miracle would happen and it would be there. But it's just not my day for fabric miracles I guess. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Well two of the quilts are for a set of twins. So I want to use the same fabric in both of them. I'm going to make them with different patterns though because I want them to be individual for the babies. I have some really nice handdye fabric that I'm going to incorporate into them. The problem is, I have the pink, blue, green and purple sheep fabric. I don't have and can't find the yellow now. I have looked at a different yellow print and for what I have in mind it just won't look right. I could just use the four colors that I do have but it just really needs the yellow sheep.

Mika, you just may have to go to Plan B. If you can't have the print in yellow sheep; perhaps you might consider adding another print. It's true that just one different print might throw your plans off balance - so how about 3 different prints? I see that you don't have yellow, peach or aqua, and you don't have bubbles, dots, stripes or plaid. And yes, you just must have yellow. A quilt without yellow is like a day without sunshine. Oh I'm so bad. LOL. It's Baby Basic made by Springs Living/Springs Global US. I realized after looking at the fabric again that I had done a booboo. It's listed on the edge of the fabric as Baby Basic #CP11885. Thanks for looking though. I appreciate the help. I have searched JAF website to no end and found nothing. I have searched through quilts.com and nothing. If I can't find it in the yellow, I'll have to do like Polly said and go to plan B. What Plan B is I have no clue yet, lol. As far as photo printing it, I don't know if I want to do that since I'm not really familiar with it. I've only done it once and it was terrible so I never tried again.

Well Polly, it looks like that is exactly what I'm gonna have to do. I haven't given up just yet but I'm trying to formulate Plan B. And yes it just must have yellow. Those babies must have each day with a ray of sunshine. So I'm on to Plan B.

Mika-

You might want to re-think the quilts. Sometimes if you use the same print in a bunch of different colors it looks too matchy-matchy. Try throwing in some dots and checks and tone-on-tone to make it more exciting and to keep the eye moving over the quilt surface. I think you might be happier with the final results. Just a little suggestion to help lower your frustration level....... ;-)

Sorry you're having this problem with searching out your fabric.... wish I could help, but I don't have any juvenile type fabrics on hand. I have to buy those specifically when I need them.

Mika, sorry to have been so long replying. Try contacting the Jo-Ann home office and ask who is "supposed" to have some of this particular fabric. They can do a check and let you know if any of the stores still list a supply. Then you can contact that store, ask them to hold it and see if there is anyone near by to pick it up, etc. You can also ask if you could purchase from the store via phone and have them ship it to you. (We used to do that for customers when I worked at a Jo-Ann's, but it is individual store policy.)

I haven't been out to check at the stores here, and they are so understaffed that I hate to call and ask. (sorry....)

I would be willing to help out if I could/can.

Mika -- I'm going to try to get to my Joann's this weekend. I have written down the fabric info and will look for it. Don't give up just yet :-). OH -- *do* you need the yellow so that you can make quilts for the twins -- same fabric but different colors? I remember that you want the yellow fabric but does it have bunnies or sheep?? I can't for the life of me remember!!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I need the yellow with sheep. I have the other colors in that particular line. One yard should be enough but I could always use two. Thanks so much.
