SEPARATING Invisible Zippers!

I know there was a thread here a while back about a source for invisible zippers which could separate. Well DD will need something very like that for the front of the tunic of the Hornpipe outfit, because they have to make quick changes and pulling a garment on over the head would muss the oh-so-carefully-arranged bun. So I did a search and found:

Spendy but worth it for this particular application.

Thanks for the sight. DS asked me to find one for his windbreaker over the weekend and I told him, he should look for a new jacket, but in the meantime, this should help. Emily

his

Emily, for a windbreaker you probably do not need an

*invisible* zipper. If you can't find a separating zipper in the color/length you need at your local fabric store, Jeff at zipperstop.com is very helpful in providing just what you need.

ordered separating zippers in purple for the maids' dresses for DD's wedding, and they were perfect. Jeff altered the length on one of them to the exact measurement I needed, for a very small additional fee. NAYY, just a very satisfied customer.

Have you got a Hancock's out there? I know I've seen them at Hancock's here. And for some less than that......but my eyeballs woke up at 4:30 this morning taking the rest of me along for the ride. And I can't quite remember how much they were there..... Not a lot of color options as I remember, but like you say only the pull should show and those can be painted.

Very true, including some I would *not* use for nails. ;-}

The closest two left in the area are 20 miles north across the bridge in Vancouver, WA, or 38 miles south to Salem, OR. I used to shop Hancock's a lot when there was one close by.

Ours is still here, as I was there yesterday. The woman who waited on me said they've closed any that are "not profitable." So far, so good here.

I've worn both of those! And bright yellow, tangerine orange, lime green with purple dots... Every nail a different colour, and each nail striped! Acrylic paint and clear nail varnish for the fancy stuff, plain nail varnish for the solid colours. Nothing new in nail art - I was doing this back in the 70's!

Gods, but you get bored in boarding school when you run out of homework! ;)

I now have nail varnish with built in dots!

Precisely, I wouldn't be caught dead wearing a nail polish which makes one look dead. Mostly I wear a nude color by OPI called "Fiji Weejee Fawn", and a very nice rich red, "Chick Flick Cherry". That's it. I love OPI's names, and their polish wears like iron. ;-)

Since I seem to be allergic to something in nail enamel, I skip it entirely. But I could get into the colors, if I could tolerate it. I settle for clothing. Not even hair, these days, though in my youth.....well, I could stop traffic.

I have been plagued my entire life with soft, splitting nails I could never grow out at all. Polish was a non-issue, I used to hide my hands. For K2 New Year's Eve, DH treated me to salon acrylic nails. I loved them and have been doing-it-myself ever since.

Those are very "big" in Reno. Lots of Viet Namese nail shops. I'm leery of the fungi that some people get. Doing it yourself, you can protect against that, and you won't be infected by tools, etc.

The upkeep on acrylics is something awful, kind of like ink cartridges for printers: They could GIVE the printers away, and still make a ton on ink. With nails, the initial cost is fairly moderate, but you have to have "fills" as your natural mails grow, and that is almost as costly as the original work. I did that several times before I decided I could do it myself.

In all these years I had a nail turn green under the falsie just once, and that was my own fault, I knew it was loose, and didn't repair it right away.

I like Bus Stop Red myself. ;) It's a very Marilyn Monroe kind of color and I think that's probably where the name came from.

And I do have to mention that DD's nails are currently an electric blue. She also has royal purple and black. *sigh* She has a really nice deep red one too.....but the bottle has a skull and crossbones on it. LOL Did I mention she will be 17 in a couple weeks??

If you decide you want to stop doing the acrylics, and let yours grow out, go to Sally's Beauty Supply and look for some stuff called Nail Life. It's marvelous stuff. It's clear and you put it on your nails daily, then take it off once a week. It makes them thicker, and encourages them to grow too. I have no clue what's in it. But it's good stuff. NAYY. I did falsies for a while. I got tired of the upkeep on them. So I soaked them off and then my nails were a mess!! I've always had the kind that will peel. Much worse after the acrylic nails. As long as I keep this stuff on mine, they actually grow till I feel like I need to clip them. Even scrubbing things around the house like I do. Also, it comes in a 1 oz. bottle, so it lasts a long time!

Thanks, I will eventually have to leave the falsies off, so I'd love an alternative procedure. I tried some "nail strengthener" stuff years ago, but it did nothing.

I give my nails a break every once in a while, and I agree, the natural nails under fakes are in pretty bad shape. I actually use Broadway 2-Step nails, and I've had really good luck with them. I leave my nails bare about three days every month.

I'm off to Sally's today! Thanks!
