OT: Itch

Hi,

Don't know if this will help, but I figure when you have an itch, a lot of things are worth trying. I have, according to my doctor, atopical ecsema. He gave me some cream at the time, but was a LOT more interested in the fact that I had scratched the itch. Needless to say I have not been back, and am now in the process of changing doctors. (It's a whole process doing that here) The cream I got helped, but I ran out, and then I happened to read a ladys magazine, where a woman recommended a cream that had helped her. Mango body butter from the Body Shop. And I thought to myself: "Yeah, right" But I tried it, and now my ancle has healed up almost completely. And I had a 2 inch band around the ancle that had a clear liquid oozing from it constantly. Took some time to heal with this though, like half a year.

There are a fair amount of creams with calendula in them sold in the health food areas, or where you find homeopathic remedies, and even in some mainstream shops. It's supposed to be soothing. Usually I've seen it with marking on the jar or lotion bottle saying contains calendula. Some with a picture of the plant.

Dear Liz,

You could have developed an allergy to fruit. I am unable to eat any raw fruit without my mouth swelling and itching, ears itching, etc. If the fruit is cooked or canned then I am alright. Doc said I must be allergic to something that is destroyed in the cooking process.

I certainly hope you feel better now. YC

I LOVE Ahava - but alas, my contact has disappeared from online & I can't seem to find another $3 / tube source :( Anyone have any ideas? Here it's normally about $30 a tube. It's the best - almost the only thing in the world that hasn't irritated my super-sensitive skin!

When I find one, I'll let you know. The 2 best options I've found, is periodically Costco has Ahava. That's how I got the bath salts (which are actually recommended for psoriasis as well) and last tube of hand lotion. The crew in the ER loves the hand lotion - it doesn't leave any grease behind. Also - the Beauty First chain carries Ahava - if you have a "membership" - the $15 is worth 20% discount the day you get it, and every

1st Tuesday of the month. I've found them most reliable with products, etc, and some very good prices (get my shampoo, face gunk, etc. there).

The other stuff that I've tried is some of the Kiehl's products - and that is really nice stuff, there are a few variants of moisture need - and I know you can get Kiehl's on the web. Or at Nordstrom. Or a Kiehl's store - and they're generous with samples to try before you buy anything.

Good louck, ellice

Thank you - I'm especially interested in Ahava products, or any dead sea brands, but I will definitely check out your other suggestions. Thanks

You're welcome. I actually thought of another lotion that my dermatologist had me try. It's from a Japanese company (I think) called "Shikai" and is the lotion with Borage in it. Really great - a little goes a long way. You can get it at places like Whole Foods or other good natural/health food product places. Pricey - about $16 a bottle but very good.
