Pegasus

I am about 80% finished with "Pegasus, the winged horse" by Pegusus Originals. It doesn't have back stitching to define the edges of the various parts of the animal. I'm wondering if anyone here has added back stitching to it or if you think it would help it pop on the fabric. I'm stitching it on 18 count Navy Aida. The colors are predomently greys and white so what color would you suggest for the back stitching if I do it?

I haven't done this piece but I *have* seen it done and it was quite lovely. I'm not sure if the stitcher added backstitching. I would recommend that when you have finished the piece, add just a bit of backstitching in an area you think would benefit from it. Personally, I would use the darkest gray that was used in the stitching. Since the designer did think backstitching was needed, you don't want to over power the design when you add it. Also, I would add a bit of Kreinik #032 to those wings if I was stitching the piece :-). Pegasus is a magical beasie and having a bit of glimmer on the wings just makes it a bit more, well, magical. Actually, I would probably have done the body in rayon (IAYP) and then done the wings in regular floss and the Kreinik. But then, I am a glutton for punishment and really like shimmery, sparkly, glittery stuff :-). CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I loathe, detest, and despise backstitching to outline figures or pieces of figures. So much so that I don't do it unless *I* not the designer think it will enhance the piece. I've found that in many cases, long stitches with or without couching look more natural than a lot of regular sized stitches. I also like using double running stitches instead of back stitches.
