I'm working on St. George by Long Dog. Quick question - when doing the back stitching on this, do you recommend one or two strands of floss? (I'm doing it on 18 count over one with two strands for the crosses).
And I agree with Louisa & Sue with one caveat (sort of). If you have any areas of backstitching that are for something like kitty whiskers of telephone lines or some such, then 2 strands often look better. Those sorts of things are done as what I call "structural elements" and not just for delineation. The same can be said for long stitches (which is what kitty whiskers are usually done in). Just remember, you can always try it both ways and then make your decision according to what YOU think looks best :-). CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I did this piece on 28 ct. linen over two, and used two strands for X's and one for backstitching. It looks fine. The drafter in me likes the different "line weights" to emphasize different elements, and give an air-ier look. Did you know Yahoo has a Long Dog group? There's a huge gallery of Long Dog pieces- much inspiration for trying different color-ways. It looks like a huge piece to stitch, but was really very easy because it was all whole stitches & back stitching, in one color I found each section or band or motif took about an hour- so maybe 40 hours total? I hope this helps. Mary M
