Stitcher's Murphy's Law?

No, it`s not just you! Murphy`s law is the more polite version! It crops up all the time. I have the complete range of DMC and Anchor, but the colour I really want is ALWAYS the colour I`ve just used up on something else! Fortunately, I usually design old houses, so I make sure that I have at least three skeins of each of my basic palette (at least the greens and browns, which I use a lot of!) colours, which does prevent SOME of this phenomenon occurring! And isn`t "phenomenon" an AWKWARD sort of word!

With this in mind I usually suggest using any available flower colour in my charts, which makes life easier. You can use up that odd bit of colour that`s not enough for anything major! Tubs of flowers, strategically placed, are very useful for smoothing out awkward corners on a building, I find! They`re never out of place - we go in for lots of flower tubs over here! Thank goodness!

Caryn, I think it might have more to do with the pattern! I ran out of (I believe) 744 while working on the top of the sub last night! In my case, it wasn't calamatous as I could work on animals, but the other skein is still packed away in boxes from when we moved! (I got smart and bought multiples of a couple that looked like they'd need a lot, and 312 wasn't one of them. I needed more than one skein of it too...) Good luck! It must be a law of stitching because I am stitching a huge piece called "Eye of the Tiger" by Cross My Heart and there is a ton of B5200 and the white which is the 3000 number (winter white?). So, I was stitching the B5200, TONS of it, then I was going to fill in with the winter white. So, I run out, of course.

Mark notices I'm now doing my fillet crochet and asks why no tiger. I tell him I ran out of a color and he said, "so go on to another color" to which I replied, Honey, I have a system. He said, "huh," and laughed. He said, "I had no idea." :)

I bought ten skeins :)

Not quite in the same category of running out of floss -- I'm finding that despite having accumulated a lot of beads, buttons, and ribbon, I rarely have something that's 'perfect' for a project so I'm forced to buy more stuff ;-)

I had a complete selection of floss, and yet it seems there is always one I'm out of when I want to work on something! lol

And of course, you have designers who insist on 7 packets of a particular bead, and most LNS only have 2-4 on the hook! Even if you have that bead in your stash, how likely are you to have 7 packets of it? lol

Bugles work well. IF you a bead shop near by, I'd stop there first. More reds and more shapes! LOL

That's when I get creative and use the beads I want to use. Seed beads off the rack in any other brand are dirt cheap. I never buy the beads intended by the designer. I go and substitute with beads which are priced correctly. V
