Quick Hardanger question

Hi everybody! I just wanted to ask a quick question. I'm working on asmall Hardanger doily as a Christmas present, and I'm at thebuttonhole edging (taking a deep breath at the mere thought). I'mfinding the corners a bit tricky, so I've been looking in my books fortips. A couple of my books say that each corner should have fivestitches, and a couple say seven. I've been using seven so far becausethe books that suggest five also say that you then need to machinestitch the edge after you cut it out, and I'm not great at machinesewing. Any thoughts? Can you use five without adding the machinestitching? Is it simply a matter of personal preference, or does onecount work better for certain designs than others? Thanks for yourhelp!Louisa
