Phew!!!

Thank goodness our heatwave has died down and we only have two fans going instead of the seven we had going for the past few weeks!

Fans, what are those -- oh yeah, the mechanism inside the air conditioning unit that blows the chilled air out of the vents....

We're back into the triple digits this week.

I finally got someone out to check our A/C. It's been having a real hard time keeping up on the very hot days, and I'm not someone who tries to refrigerate my house. I usually keep the thermostat set at 80 degrees F during the summer but even that was a stretch for the system. So I was really happy to get someone to look at it - until the appointment-setter told me I'd have to shut the A/C off so the tech could work on it right away. So at 8AM I shut off the A/C. By the time the tech arrived at

12:30 the temp indoors was 91 degrees F. The system's running better now and the inside temp's now 83. I've got two fans that have been running nonstop for a couple of weeks now. Oh, and the five ceiling fans, so I've got seven, too! We're expecting a break in things Wednesday evening.

Karen E., who would love to have a couple _more_ fans going.

We have a central system that was being severly taxed even though we have ceiling fans running in every room. We put a small window AC in the bedroom and one in the living room, keep the curtains drawn and doors between rooms closed (I'm beginning to feel more Mole-ish than hobbit-ish). Jessie in NW GA

I hate summer and you all have my deepest sympathy for your discomfort.

Now I need to say that summer lasts here in Florida for about 9 out of 12 months. Right now, at 9 am, the temp is 80 f and the humidity (gasp) is

99%.

After several weeks of this, I'm willing to trade our relentless heat for 6 strands of floss, any color!!!!

My Dad is once again on a kick to leave the area and move to Florida. My Mother says, NO WAY. She hates it there, they have gone down several times in late Feb/early March and all she does is SWEAT.

I just spent the weekend with my folks on the Cape (aka Cape Cod) and did nothing BUT SWEAT. The nights were the worst. The bed in the spare room is an old four poster and it on the same level as the fans and windows. DD and I ended up on the air mattress on the floor with the windows all the way open and the door closed. Between the breeze and the fan, we could sleep. Otherwise the only comfortable place to be was outside in the shade or on the water.

Why do you think Gill and her DH always head away from there for the summer!

As for me, I love the winter - even the short days, and the wet and windy weather. You can always put another sweater on and turn the heat up. There`s a limit to how much you can take off when it`s hot!!!

I'll give the gory details personally, but I suspect that you will have AC or some one that OPENS the windows......
