Phew!

Well, I did manage to get the quilt delivered to Malvern this afternoon. Hanging sleeve went on last evening. Just 20 hours early >g< Now, only one more dead-lined piece, and then its retirement for me!! I am going to work without pressure from 1 July onwards. This is a very public promise and I am going to spend much of the next couple of months practising saying 'no' >g<

I have put a few photos of the quilt on my Flickr site. I have never done so much quilting before, and much of it was with templates and with the walking foot (feed dogs up). The small bit of FM quilting incurred lots of problems on the blue zig-zags, but the little orange leaf groups went fine. There were a few changes made to the placing of the quilting patterns, as a result of you kindly giving your opinions when I asked for help a few weeks ago.

Thanks everyone.

Wow. WOW! WOWWWWEEEEEE!!!!!! Pat, that is mind-bogglingly beautiful! I love the colors, I love the pattern, and the quilting is to die for! You're a wonderful quilter and I've loved your previous quilts; but this one is truly outstanding! Congratulations -- I know you're going to get lots of wonderful comments on this one at the show!

Pat, Was this a pattern in Christine Porter's book? it's fabulous!! I did a quilt of her "Scottish Fantasia" in a class. Your colors are wonderful. Congrats!

Thanks Amy. No, it wasn't a pattern from Christine Porter's book. I have taken photographs of all the sections of this beautiful floor and this quilt is an exact copy (though different colours) of the floor of the choir section of the cathedral. Christine lives in Bristol, and so she has used many of the patterns in her quilts. Also, the whole style (Cosmati) is a recognised old Italian style of tiling floors. . Thanks Jenn. Boringly: more assiduous housework and gardening! BUT: I have several pieces to finish, like my Dear Jane and Quilted Diamonds, which are just pieces for my own pleasure in doing. I need to re-make one of my early quilts - made into a bed-size quilt from the complex centre! - by simply adding odd borders. It's awful and never been used as it is! And, of course, there are lots of others which have been sitting as bags of collected fabric, just waiting >g< I expect to be a lot less grumpy - gradually!! . In message , jennellh writes

Fabulous Pat. Did you use hand dyed fabric. I LOVE the quilting.I wish I could to Malvern come this year. Am off to London tomorrow to babysit! It will be the 1st time in quite a while that I havent made it and it looks like it could be reasonable weather too!!I do wish you good luck with it and also good luck with the "no" project! lol

I just love everything about this quilt! The symmetry in the asymmetrical setting, the lovely quilting, the colors, the way the small orange squares float on the surface. Superb! Roberta in D

Pat: Good for you ... you will find your quiltmaking is more fun when you do not have deadlines. Speaking of deadlines, I am most willing to wait until February or even next April for my Birthday Quilt ... no need to rush it through in January. LOL

You're good, Pat, you know that? You are really, really good. Maybe even a little bit subtle. Polly

Well - it did take me a moment or two to spot what had just been said >g< I'm glad you didn't specify the year! and I do think that come 1 July, I will be as slick in saying no as you are in asking. Hope so - you're so good at it >gYou're good, Pat, you know that? You are really, really good. Maybe even a

Thanks Kathyl. It is something I wanted to do - to start on my Cathedral collection. It doesn't have anything to appeal to judges though! so it's there just for itself (and anyone, who, like me, enjoys this kind of un-free pattern and quilting!). . In message , KJ writes
