Nine Patch frenzy

Dec 23, 2007 18 Replies

Yesterday I enjoyed myself very much just putting together 6 in nine patches. I love them. Some were out of the scrap box, some were cut new but I had fun. I'm heading back that way again. Maybe the wedding quilt I need to make for March ("ish" according to the bridegroom) will be nine patches. Lots and Lots of them.

I like it! I'm mostly strip-piecing mine, unless I just don't have strips long enough. then it's 2 1/2 " pieces from the scrap box. Leftover bits are going into a border strip. It's nice and mindless, soothing after the whirlwind of semester end and holiday madness;-)

I keep counting but I only get 5/4, or maybe 8/1, but I'm not very good in math. What's "6 in 9" patches?

Dogmom, glad that Whoever dished out digits stopped with 5 for each hand....

I stumbled in that too, Dogmon. She means six-inch 9-patches. Polly

Whoops... sorry. It made sense when I wrote it. See why math is not my friend? ;-)

I coordinate the Jo's Little Women's club at The Quilt Merchant in Winfield, IL. We use directions provided by Jo Morton for small quilts which promote the use of her fabrics. This month and next we will be making quilts using 1 1/2" Nine-patch blocks! They are cute but tiny. Maybe I will try scaling the Moonlight Quilters directions for the 1

1/2" block. Would be >Yesterday I enjoyed myself very much just putting together 6 in nine

You are kidding, right? Polly

Probably not!! I'm making a Blooming Nine Patch with 1.5" nine patches >ggYou are kidding, right? Polly

Wonderful! Simple but effective. I recently did one out of blue scraps, alternating with cream 6" squares. (Single Irish chain) Roberta in D, Queen of the Scrap Heap

You mean 9 1.5" patches, or finished block size of 1.5"? (Want to know just how crazy you are!) Roberta in D

No, Roberta, I don't think you want to know. =) Polly

1 1/2 inch nine patches?! I'm not even sure I could see the pieces for that!!!

Y'all is crazy... and I mean that in the most loving way possible, but y'all is crazy! ;-)

They're a very respectable half inch!! I have done nine-patches with quarter inch squares - they are a little tricky!! but certainly not impossible. . In message , Debi Matlack writes

you can scroll all the way down or go direct to the 'quilts' set it is the miniature called Grandmother's Quilt Cupboard; and, in this one, the nine-patches are in the redwork row (the quilts are supposed to look like rolled or folded up quilts in a cupboard!)

I did one of those itty-bitty 1/2" squares quilt for a bed for my (TBF) scale dollhouse. It ended up about 7-8" long by 5" wide. Don't think I'd do it again in a million years as it about drove me nuts.
