How small are your scraps?

Which leads on to How small are your scraps?

I tend to keep just about anything that is bigger than one inch in any given dimension, and sometimes smaller bits than that.

I also cut oddments into 2.5" squares which do very nicely for nine patches and 1.5" x 2.5" pieces which I use when making Frugal patch blocks.

far I have made about 30 of these and I still have an overflowing scrap box. I can see some crumb quilts coming up soon too. Lizzy

I make my blocks 6.5" unfinished and then see how the mood takes me.

well, as my OCD does not allow me to throw out any scrap over 1 1/2 ", i have got 3 different bins/boxes sorted into 3 catagories: smaller than 2-3"... long strips about 1-3" wide... and large scraps: bigger than the strips, but smaller than FQ's. I won't even get into lights and darks..... having said that...i am now in the process of using my long strips for a string quilt, FP, 6" sq blocks. i've made about 125 or more, so far. i think i'll have enough strips to make 3 full size tops and maybe a crib size also. even the setting in triangles will be from scraps. and if i can get away with it, so will the backs and bindings. =P

Howdy!

Former RCTQer Carolyn-in-Harlingen had her box of "Scraps too small to keep." Always makes me chuckle.

What's a scrap? No good fabric goes to waste. ;-)

This link is from yesterday's "Quilt Show" topic. Slide #38 shows use of tiny torn tabs to create a beautiful vase filled with flowers. Very nice!
