reason to find a lqs when you are traveling

We just got back from a quick trip to see the spring water falls in Yosemite. Boy if you get a chance they are beautiful. Usually we go in the fall when the people are fewer and the animals are more but the falls are pretty done by then. Anyway there is a pretty nice little quilt store in Oakhurst:

They moved since we were there last time but we came across them while on the hunt for a restaurant. Found some nice fabric and the gal was happy to suggest a couple of good eating spots in town. Oh my goodness did we enjoy one especially. We would not have found it on our own but sure had some good eats there. Really nice folk too. I told dh quilters know their food. I was right! What a great reason to go on a trip with list of quilt shops to hit.

Taria, We always ask at the hotel front desk where the best local eats are. Cant go wrong asking a local. Glad your trip was fun. I love the spur of the moment trips and little side tracks we lose ourselves in!!

The front desk this trip only suggested their little hotel restaurant. Yuck. I am not very good at travelling but short trips even I can enjoy. : ) Taria

You are so right, Taria! On the recent Road Trip to Paducah, several LQS staff have recommended fine local eateries. In Tennessee we enjoyed Fried Green Tomatoes as a snack, even though it was too early for lunch. In Paducah, we really liked a light lunch in Serenitea, near the Quilt in a Day store. PAT in VA/USA

About once a year, DH & I drive to Yosemite & have breakfast/brunch at the Ahwahnee Hotel. You can't beat it for ambience, the service & the food is great. We always make a reservation & we sail by the hotel guests while they are waiting for a table:)

Taria - thanks for the update on Bear Paw Quilts - I have them on my quilt shop list, but didn't know they had moved. (if you want my No Calif quilt shop list, I'm happy to share it with you. I have about 250 stores on it. I have one for So Calif, but since I rarely get down there, it's probably not the most reliable!)

Taria, the year my DH served on a grand jury was one long, miserable stint. Poor guy, it just about got to him. Really tough stuff. I hope your DH is handling it well and that July brings a bit more freedom.
