Hi Mike,

So how is your tailors ham coming? T'was was in a used clothes store and saw lots of wool trousers; from outdoorsy to law enforcement (didn't look to see if there were any wool blankets there). A nice tartan coverd tailors ham would sure look splendid!

Tartan Kilts are nice looking. Not sure I like the others. I guess, when I like below the belt that loose, is when I'm skinny dipping, which doesn't happen anymore- to many people around. Other wise pants will do!

I do love seeing folk clothes, so Scottish Kilts are nice to see. And colorful, too. Yours is really nice.

Oh yeh, I remembered to sign my name at the bottom, when writing to ng's, sometimes I forget. I forgot to do that once or twise here and some people were climbing the walls. John

Howdy John, I'm finding pure wool around. Should have enough pretty soon. I'm finding it in the thrift shops. It has to be pure wool though, not a blend so it isn't real common. I should be able to make the ham in a few weeks. As for covering it with tartan, at $60 a yard........... I prefer the tartan kilts myself, but for everyday wear the contemporary kilts are great. It's nice to be able to throw em in the washer and dryer. You can't do that with real tartan. I've found kilts are far more comfortable than jeans for everyday wear. Of course, there are times when trousers are more practical but most of the time I wear kilts now. My wife even likes me in kilts better than jeans which surprised me a bit. I have a couple more in the works, cotton blend in a Black Watch pattern. Once you get used to wearing a kilt pants just don't feel right anymore. When we go out the reactions are great. I get lots of compliments. I've noticed women seem to really like the look. I even overheard one gal tell her hubby he should get one because he'd look sexy in it A friend is going to visit her family in Egypt late in the Fall and said she'll bring me back8 yards of suit weight silk. She says it's incredibly cheap there compared to the US. That should make a cool kilt.

Hi everyone - out from lurkdom again to say that you don't need to clean pure wool the way you do everything else. Pure wool is sort of self cleaning to an extent - just sponge off any spills and go over it with a clothes brush and a damp cloth from time to time. Only when it gets grubby should it go to the dry cleaners but it'll cost a bit for a kilt to be cleaned.

If your in the mind set of laundering everything after one wearing you'll have to adjust.

The McNeill kilt is great! I've been away but did we ever see a rear view?

I know about wool. I brush it down some every time I wear it and give it a shot of Fabreeze. About the only time it'll go to the cleaners is when the pleats need a good professional pressing, not very often :) I have 2 denim kilts and one blend that I wear most often. I can toss em in the washer if they get dirty. I have 2 cotton Black Watch kilts and one wool generic plaid kilt in the works now so I'll be well supplied. No rear view of the MacNeil, allie wouldn't want to put too much on the site. After all, it is a chat channel IRC site and I don't want to overdo it :) After these 3 current projects I'll take a break on kiltmaking til late Fall. A friend is getting me 8 yards of silk while she visits family in Egypt. She says silk is incredibly cheap there compared to the US and very high quality. An 8 yard silk kilt should be pretty neat
