How important are LSS on your todo list when you travel?

I've been wondering how many of you actually try to incorporate visits to local scrapbook stores when you take a trip? Do you make a great effort to visit them? How likely are you to buy something when on the road? Do you take anything with you , say a rigid paper holder, to ensure that you can carry paper purchses back without damaging them?

I carry my 12x12 highsmith paper box in my van all the time. That way my paper comes home safely instead of in a plastic bag bent. For me living in a rural area a trip to a big store like Hobby Lobby, Michaels or Ben Franklin is an all day trip. I always get in one of those stores whenever I make the trip to the city and I never know what sales I will find. I always try to get in at least one store on a vacation. .I rarely get to take a vacation due to the daycare and when I do I plan for months in advance. I always plan a stop in Sieversville at the super clearance center if my vacation takes me near Knoxville, TN. And I really like to see LSS in other areas when I get the chance. My family wouldn't know it was a vacation without one stop at a library for a few hours to research and a stop at a LSS. My GS troop will be going to Savannah in two years and two of the assistant leaders are also scrappers. We've already turned several of the girls into scrappers so you know what our itinerary will include.......... Sandy

The only LSS I've made it a point to visit is Archiver's in Minneapolis when I was there visiting my cousin a year & a half ago. Haven't been traveling much lately, mainly to visit my dad on the east coast. Too busy the last few trips to see what I could find in his area, maybe the next one. Since I'm a digital scrapper, I'd be more inclined to make a special point of going if I knew they had good ephemera CDs for me to look thru. I'd really love to find some that date the material (at least by decade) on it, as I'd love to use it on pages with photos from the same time period (& I'm not knowledgeable to do it w/o someone spelling it out for me ). The one ephemera CD (or maybe it's a set of two or three) I've seen online that I really want is about $180. OUCH!

Haven't even made it to any of the local LSS's here!

Yes Ma'am! I always visit a SB store wherever I can find one. Usually whoever I am with or visiting is a scrapbooker and we just naturally seek out the stores! LOL I always put my stuff in the outside zipper compartment on my large bag and it keeps them just fine. I think the fact that I don't have room for a lot keeps my spending in control. hee hee

I don't look up stores in advance, but if I see one and have time I'll definitely swerve in. I should think about taking a container to keep things from getting crinkled. Just saw one the other day while I was checking out a Laser Tag place for the kids. It was VERY tiny. Not sure I'd seen one that small. The crop room was bigger than the store. She charged $10 more than the place near me for the crop, but the gal working there said, "she feeds everyone good." Got me to thinking how important is food when I'm cropping? She did have some metal embellishments that were very cute that I hadn't seen any where else. It was a combination of copper, gold and silver colored metals. Very pretty. The gal there was standing in while the main gal was at a doctor appointment. I wanted to purchase the embellishment, but the gal didn't kow how to run the register. haha. I'll have to go back.

I've always tryed to visit stores when I travel to a city. Up until I started scrapbooking it was quilt stores. Then it was of course LSS's. Then I met you M-C!!! You have taught me soooo much when traveling! You are the QUEEN when it comes to planning out trips and directions to stores and the like. (I plan on venturing on my own in April when we head to the FDIC convention, wish me luck! lol) I am likely to buy something while out on the road if I know I can't get it here at home or if it's just too good of a price to pass up. I carry a rigid paper holder so my paper stays nice until I can get it home to fondle it appropiately. I orginally used ti for my paper. snort! That was about the first week I started scrapbooking, then I ran out of room! LOL

Do you have any advice for traveling and visiting LSS?

Whenever I travel I always TRY to plan for a few LSS stops. Sometimes I will carry a paper taker with me and occasionally I will buy something. The type of trip I am on always makes the difference how much effort I will put into locating an LSS. Last summer I made a trip to Ft Walton Beach, we spent a full day hunting LSS's. It was wonderful! I think we visited about 5-6 of them and I came home with lots of goodies. S

I don't plan trips to LSS's while traveling but if I spy one and have time to stop, then I'm thrilled! I like the idea of keeping a 12 X 12 craft keeper with me. I'll definitely make sure to pack one of those when we take our family vacations this summer.

Now ya'll know what my answer is to THAT question - abso - pos - ya betcha - lutely booty!!!

I can scan thru a good sized shop in about 30 minutes. It often takes me longer to get into or out of the consarned parking areas that I can find than going thru the store, but let me tell ya, I don't go away LIGHT handed, err walleted!!

I usaully try to remember to take a pizza box, but one stop will fill it so i just ask the store for a box usaully!!!

Nada for 05

I certainly try to hit at least two on my trips. I'm headed to Florida the last week of March. So if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear 'em. I am so excited about this trip. Not only have I met someone that has completely swept me off my feet, but we're headed on our first trip together......kid free. Not that I don't want to take my kids on vacation. I just need time for ME. And some of you know I've been kinda trying to plan just that. I have not been kid free for a bazillion years, so I'm not sure how to behave. All the girls are headed to Kentucky for Spring Break with Grandma, so they get a vacation away from me as well. I'd love to not only hit a couple of stores somewhere in route, but also look forward to hopefully meeting some Florida RCS'ers. I don't know where you Floridians live in relation to the route we'll be taking. I'm sorry M-C and Kenda, and Dave that I'm not headed to OK at this time, but that area is open for a possible future move, so don't count me out. I will definitely be prepared for possible baggage coming back, as much as one can fit in a jeep. We'll be cruising with the top down if weather permits. We're still working on details. Email me if you're interested in a possible meeting, and I'll try to arrange it.

My dh is very good about taking me to LSS. Last fall when we were in Las Vegas, we rented a car and dh spent the day away from the casinos taking me to scrapbook stores. If I can find the address of a store my husband will get me there one way or another. Janie

Interesting you should ask about LSS and travelling. We just got back from a trip to Niagra Falls to see my sister and her family. It didn't take long to find out that they live about 4 blocks from a SB store. We left most of the childrern at home with the Dad's and went shopping. I put the paper in the pocket of my largest suitcase and it arrived home just fine. Space in the luggage is a big constraint when purchasing while travelling but browsing the stores is fun.

Hmmm. You gave me an idea, M-C. Just found a LSS in Nags head where I'll be vacationing this summer, & another within driving distance.

Maybe I should email them & see if they carry anything for us digital scrappers (or could be persuaded to before I'm there ).

They haven't been to-die-for important, but I'm finding they're becoming important. LOL (what can I say? this NG rubbed off on me!) I wonder how many scrapbook stores I could find between here and my parents' house in NM? LOL We're going to visit them for about 2 weeks this summer so I have lots of time to plan!!!! MUWAHAHAHAHA!!!!

I look for scrapbooks stores when I travel. I even found one when we went to Hawaii - made my hubby take me too. It was a small store but I bought some great stuff there. The store owner wrapped my stuff between cardboard so it wouldn't get bent in my suitcase, which I thought was very nice of her. We go to Ocean City, MD in July every year but I haven't found a scrapbook store there yet :(
