uploading layouts to web

Hi, folks!

Question for everyone.. I see that there are almost as many ways to post layouts to the web as there are posters. What do you think of your favorite website, and which ones are easiest to work with? I've looked at a few, but haven't found one that seems better than the others. I'd love to post some layouts, if I can figure out how. I've never done anything to, for, or with a website before, so it's all very new to me. Any suggestions?

I've only used webshots. On the plus side, it's easy to upload photos. On the minus side, you have to download their software, which then tries to take over your desktop. I won the "fight" to get my desktop image back, but it still tries to use its' screensaver (I didn't have one set up, so haven't bothered to turn the currently blank webshots one off). Also, it brings up a little window a couple times a day advertising itself.

Good luck with whichever one you choose!

I prefer picturetrail.com for my pictures. I pay about $19.99 US per year for this site. There are many free sites, but everytime I get comfy with a free website, they end up charging you anyways. I finally settled on picturetrail.

I prefer webshot for a number of reasons. The most important one works for me as the webkeeper for the RCS website as well as for personal use. I can upload the picture just as it is out of my camera and they keep the format I upload them in. When someone who uploads has a picture of a LO I need to be publish to the website, it's really easy to snag it from webshots. I'm not sure why, but the quality i always inferior on picturetrail and I always have to ask for the orifinal of the picture to be emailed to me. The second big reason for me is that I'm able to keep my important prints in non public albums on webswhot as a backup if my computer crashes. I do pay for of the webshot Premium which costs me $23.88/year and which, amongst other things, allows me to keep 3000 personal photos. Then again, that's just my opinion based on my use. I would suggest that you also consider which of the sites is the better value if you decide you want to order prints.

If you want to post layouts for family and friends to view then you might consider getting a web hosting account. You can buy a domain name for less than 10 bucks and I got a year of hosting (without ads with cpanel) from ebay for 0.99 a month. All that was really needed after that was an FTP program to upload the photo's. You can get a free FTP program from

(all freeware from that site is ad and spyware free) as well as any other free programs you might like to try to make yourself a website.

I thought of another thing too. Almost everyone who has the internet has free webspace through their internet service provider. You're already paying for it, and if you call your ISP, they can help you learn how to upload your pictures to your own website.
