Sad news for hockey art fans

I know there are a number of hockey fans on rctn, - Cheryl and others. You may not be aware of the following:

Canadian painter Ken Danby, most famous for his iconic paintings of hockey, died of an apparent heart attack while canoing in Algonquin Park.

"At the Crease" and "Lacing Up" are perhaps his most famous pieces - known by every hockey fan, but I prefer his Ontario landscape paintings such as "Summer Solstice" and "Lake Superior" which speak to me so very strongly of my own and my family's emotional and physical geography having lived all our lives on or near the Great Lakes (Niagara Falls, Parry Sound, Sault Ste Marie, Ajax).

Although he travelled widely and painted around the world, he still came home to paint the locations he loved such as Algonquin Park.

Sigh, I recognized the artist even if the name didn't ring a bell right away. Seems like a peaceful way to go.
