shrink or stretch nylon

Hi all, Well, I made another canopy, this time in shocking orange. IT IS LOAD. And, as with the last one, I'm having trouble getting the size of the panels just right. This time I cut them too narrow and had to recut a couple, but even after that I still have some stretch marks that I would like to get rid of. Surely my technique will improve, but 'til then, does anyone know of a way of stretching, or shrinking, nylon so that I can get rid of the ripples?

Thanks,

John

Oh, I wish I could be more helpful. I don't think nylon is a very forgiving fabric. As usual, stretching would be on the bias and less so on the weft. Can you try steaming it? Over a pot of boiling water?

Hi Dianne, Steaming? Yes, that's one of the methods I found on the net. I think that rather than stretch it I'd like to shrink it. " I don't think nylon is a very forgiving fabric." Indeed, and even less so in my case, because the stuff I used has an "about 1 square" thread pattern throughout, which should make life even more difficult. I got it cheap. Of course it never occurred to me that I wouldn't do it right ;- ) I've seen lots of advice stating how simple it is to recover these things. All you do is use one of the previous panels for a template. Well, I haven't found it so simple. In both cases I've had to make drastic modifications to save the baby. It's very critical that the panels come together at the pole, just so, otherwise you get puckering or overlap. Thanks, as always for you thoughts. John
