Smily Beads

I don`t know about sources in other countries , but i am very happy with shops in my city. iWhen i pass through mid town, on other errands, i peep into the various cheap stuff selling shops , beads are now in , and plenty of images are worked into beads. I also have some friends who live in smaller towns and keep telling me waht they work on , thus i can shop for them , or buy and divide the bags of Found treasures, last thursday i sounds `beads` with little smiling faces ,,,, JUst what i looked for ,in my last work i need many tiny faces ,,, i stocked up on faces for me and my friend .. tiny flowers , some giant Payyestes , little `false` tin `coins`,,,, etc , wonderful ,,, mirjam

We have two really good bead shops here that I like. Between them, they stock everything from semi-precious stones to assorted shapes, symbols etc, that you're descrbing, Mirjam. DS and I just finished a bead necklace for one of his friends' birthdays. He loves making up the patterns, and seeing how the different shapes and colours can go together. It's a fun activity for March Break for him!

Thank you Louisa, The shop[s] i go to , aren`t only for beads , they are cheap shops with piles and shelves of many intersting things. I find that sometimes it is cheaper to buy several necaklaces with more beads than singular beads. In Tel Aviv there is a whole neighbourhood with BEAD SUPERMARKETS,,,, for lack of another word. Yes your son has it right it is a wonder to see how all the shapes and colors combine together. mirjam

Quite a few people I know shop in thrift stores; not because they can't afford 'real' stores but because they might get lucky and find treasures adorned with lace, trim, buttons and/or beads that can be used in their masterpieces.

I love thrift, resale and "odd lot" shops. You never know what you'll find.

In my part of the world, thrift shops are run by charitable and philanthropic organizations to raise funds and stock gently used donated items. We also have dollar and discount stores that aren't always cheaper for staples like food or hygiene products. I pop into one of the local dollar stores every now and then because they sometimes have unique frames that don't look like they cost one dollar.

We have lots of options

Charity run thrift stores. Wide range of stuff, sometimes find something great. Got to look often.

$1 stores. Good for craft stuff. Think I should have bought more of the craft scissors - like about 20 of them. They really work well

Odd lot or job lot stores. Insurance sale items, over stocks, irregulars. Best part is they have fliers and you can tell if it is worth a trip.

Discount - I haunt the clearance aisles at Home Goods.
