The friend who gave me the wool suggested I microwave it to kill the invaders. Knowing its history, I won't use the wool even if that worked.

I spent several hours at my LNS yesterday - one of the owners, Dianna, is leaving for Las Vegas TODAY (goodie for here - her DH is a tax preparer, and there is an annual conference there, it's next week, but they are driving and stopping at some major parks along the way.

Anyway, since they are driving, and she cannot stitch while riding in a car - but she can crochet - she was digging out her stash of yarn to sort & decide what project to make on the trip, and there were MICE nesting in it. She had it out of the box, and was sorting it on a table, when all of a sudden, there were all sorts of pink things that she thought were the pig dice from the game "Pass the Pig" (aka Pig Mania) that her kids used to play when they were younger.... see

for an example. But then they moved!!!! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek

Baby mice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She says she grew up on a farm, and can deal with any kind of animal.... except mice!

She went out and bought one of those mesh bags that you can put your "dainties" in when washing them in an automatic washer.... and is ran the whole lot of yarn though the wash last night!

Moldy or mildewed fibers, animal or insect chewed fibers, none of these is worth working with - sooner or later, probably sooner - they will disintegrate on you and waste all of your hard work. What's more, if you try to save them, they will almost certainly infect your good stuff. No matter how frugal you are (and I am very frugal) the only thing to do with these fibers is to grit your teeth and toss them out. Quickly.
