Tangential - remember that box of fabric my mother gave me

Well, both Bobbie V. and Elizabeth (aka Dr Brat) have had a chance to dig through it with me. After my first to solo passes, I sent all the large cotton, polyester double-knit and such pieces to my neighbor who is sewing bags for a feed the hungery program. I kept some fun stuff, the little bits and the "good stuff".

Among the things, Bobbie identified some green hardanger - yards of it. It isn't stiff, but is soft and supple. There is some raw linen, some raw silk, some upholstery samples, chintz...... They all need cleaning of some sort and a better home than the plastic tub they have been in for decades...

Also, I found a linen dresser/table runner. Rather masculine looking dark beige with a cotton(like) ribbon edging (green, red and ecru). Well, several washing in Orvus later, it is still dark beiger. But the ribbon colors are crisp and bright......

Hardanger also refers to a particular kind of 22 count fabric, which I assume is what is meant in this case.

Yes! I've been wondering how one could stiffen it to do the blocks etc for a table runner. It is the loveliest shade of green, not a mint, not kelly.... I'll have to match it to it's DMC number!

It is the fabric - totally unadorned and quite soft.... Cheryl

I would think that if you had the right kind of frame for it, it wouldn't need to be stiffened.

Is it a problem that it's not stiff? I guess I don't really recall having a problem doing hardanger on soft fabric, even without a frame (though I'm sure that having a frame would be easier on my hands).

Yes - but what is the "proper" frame??? LOL

I would think loosely on a scroll frame should suffice. Though the issue becomes how big of a scroll frame you would need as I assume you would want table cloth sized when done.

What about loosely in a large hoop? By loosely, I mean enough give that you can 'sew' from the top side.
