Visit with Donna

Usually when Donna comes up north, she's straight out with family and kid things. So when she called Wednesday, was I free on Thursday and I was....

So she got here around 10 for tea and Danish and we walked the gardens. Which despite the weeds, look pretty good right now. Then we compared our various WIPS - hers are much more adventurous than mine at the moment.

Then we went out - first to my favorite bead shop in the world. Ok, a good friend owns it. But it really does have a great range of beads, findings and just plain old fun stuff. And it is bright and cheery and just plain friendly. Tori is from near where Donna and her DH were stationed so, they had a lot in common to start.

we hit what used to be a great yarn shop, but this latest move was abig step down. Much less stock, same snotty atmosphere but the two girlsdidn't really seem too interested in the customers. And one had dreadlocks,which is a personal turn off for me. Then off to another bead store - but it doesn't seem to me that their stock is much different than the last time I was in 6 months ago. But I have heard their custom jewelry, especial for bridal parties is taking over their time. But Donna still found some stuff she liked.

Off then to mine new favorite yarn shop - nicest people, they do - yarns, weaving, needle and wet felting, lesson. I tried a row of knitting on a pair of HUGE needle with this really funky thick yarn. The display shawl, knitted with that pairing was 6 feet in two hours. The yarn was so lovely and soft. So tempting... I bought the cutest t-shirt; it's actually on their home page

on to a late lunch at my favorite Mexican place and home to talk so moreand then she had to go and you all know how I spent the evening! Cheryl

I was happy to finally get free time to spend with Cheryl. Just popped that address into the GPS and headed west.

Wow. The gardens are impressive. I should have realized driving up her street that what I needed to be looking for was an amazing flower bed, not a house number. Day lily nirvana.

If I lived near here I would be spending my free time at a table in this store working on whatever current beading project I had. Terrific atmosphere. Bought some dagger beads and mini kumihimo.

Beautiful things in this store. The shop models just make you want to stand there and caress them. I don't mind the dreadlocks per se, it's the fact that her hair was blond. I didn't buy anything here.

Small, but nice. Bought a couple quick earring kits in red, white, and blue. A woman, either employee or just someone who hangs out there, was peyote stitching her own designs to go around votive candles. Great idea.

I bought one skein of yarn here. A New Zealand wool that I will crochet another MP3 holder with. We saw an absolute living doll in this store as we were checking out. Old enough to walk, but not talking. In a cute Debbie Mumm dress and matching headband. She had the blondest hair I've ever seen.

Second best chili rellenos since I left the southwest. Made me happy. I think my sister and I are going to be wander our way over to this restaurant's Manchester version today.

Glad we got to spend some time together, Cheryl.

If you want daylily nirvana, next time I have to take you to Carl's garden in season....

She's a store owner and the nicer one of the pair.

Don't forget the squeaky shores. OMG was that kid cute.

And we are headed to the Nashua one tonight. Best iced tea (fresh brewed) and the senior staff remember DS a toddler and DD while in the pod. Now he can reach the top level of the fountain with an outstretched arm. And she's as tall as her favorite waiter (he's actually the owner and on the short side)

Oh me too! Makes me yearn for the time and free cash to go down your way for a long weekend...

It sounds as if you had a wonderful visit!! I have seen Cheryl's garden and her daylilies, and they are awesome!

We are in Hendersonville, NC and I am amazed at the way tigerlilies and daylilies just thrive up here!! I drooled over the pretty gardens.

This is a RV/trailer park, so to speak.Most of the sites ar seasonal. The one next to us is owned by an 85 year old English lady ( I don't know how many years she has been in the US....quite a lot I think). Anyway, the "patch" of land in front of her summer RV vacation place has an absolutely gorgeous flower garden. Reminds me of my mother's and we had a lovely time discussing the flowers, and the birdlife up here.

We should be up in NH sometime after Aug 1...and hope to be in touch. hey, Bobbie, I guess Aya will atill be with you at that time.

Yes, Aya and the boys will be here till the 10th of August. Rikuto has cut his first tooth and Kaito made a sailor bear at "Build-A-Bear" yesterday. He named it Chris after his father. I caught him singing to it this morning. Look forward to the visit. Bobbie V

I love wandering in Cheryl's garden. I really need time to go up there. Her day lily's are wonderful. I'm glad you to had a wonderful time.
