The quilt in progress here is Cat Nap from Quiltmaker May '02. There are 4 kitties sitting around a table (or quilt). I've made one kitty from black and white cow print. He's quite stunning but I just don't know what color eyes a black and white spotted kitty has. Green? Amber? something else? Would somebody please go discuss this highly technical question with your QI and get back to me? We are without feline supervision here and we don't want this quilt to be flawed. Polly
The local neighborhood QI, who actually works for the Neighborhood Association as the Neighorhood Quality Inspector, I believe, because he certainly does NOT belong to anyone and makes the entire circuit of the neighborhood every day. Passing through my lily bed in the morning on his way out, stopping at my faerie fountain for a drink of water on his way back through in the evening....
but I digress, "Bruiser" as I call him, because he is huge, HUMOUNGOUS huge, black and white and designed like a jersey cow, and wears a constant look of disdain like any of the worst bully's I have ever seen - thereby earning his rightful name, "Bruiser" - has the most piercing, glow in the dark electric green eyes I have ever seen!
This kitty is definitely not a beauty like Mia so I think I'll go with 'piercing, glow in the dark electric green'. Actually, this kitty is rather dopey looking. . . rather reminds me of our Kate D's QI who, she says, is as smart as Corn Flakes. Taking my own advice, I'll have to test. I thank you all so much. Polly
Emerald will stand out nicely and be totally believable. Most cat's eyes are usually shades of green, yellow, or gold. Some breeds have blue, gray, and even dark orange.
By the way, I have cow print in my stash that I bought just for making applique kitties. Debra in VA See my quilts at
'Makes porridge look inteligent' and 'Totally unsullied by brain cells' are the usual descriptions! But he and his sister ARE very beautiful and very affectionate:

Both have eyes the same colour as their ginger bits!
My dear departed Pudd (named by my silly younger son after the Tweetie bird cartoons "I tot I taw a Puddy Tat") was a HUGE long haired solid black cat. He had those captivating electric green eyes, too. I did love that cat to pieces- and risked my severe allergies to love on him every day- then immediately washed my face and hands and changed my clothes which went right into the washer. He had a brain tumor and disappeared when I was gone on vacation. My critter sitter searched and searched for him- we think he went off some where by himself and died. I loved ol' Pudd for 16 years.... a very long life for an outdoor cat in the country where cars and coyotes get many cats each week.
Memories.....
Leslie, Missy & The Furbabies >> The quilt in progress here is Cat Nap from Quiltmaker May '02. There are
You know Leslie, it's funny, but I feel this way about "Bruiser". He's not mine. Like I said I don't think he belongs to anyone. But he drinks out of my fountain....and occasionally accepts treats from me, at a distance and he will stop now and listen to me if I crouch down and talk nice to him. And he is rather handsome when he curls up to nap in the lily bed and I don't see him do that in anyone else's yard.
He makes the exact same circuit, and almost the exact same time every day. For a week and a half this past summer, he didn't show. I watched for him morning and night and no "Bruiser". I started asking the neighbors if they had seen Bruiser pass through. "Who???!!!" You know, the black and white cat that roams the neighborhood? "Oh that hideous old tom, no, hopefully he finally got hit by a car or something!" I couldn't believe the heartless callousness of the neighbors.
He finally showed back up one day and has been faithful every day since. Now he seems to spend more time in my flower bed or sitting in the faerie bed outside my kitchen window so he can peek in and see what I'm up to occasionally.
I think I will sincerely miss him when he stops making his rounds for good. Aren't relationships with cats funny like that?

I would never think to use gold lame' for the eyes. I have lots of cat patterns so maybe I'll try to reverse applique gold eyes on one. Debra in VA See my quilts at
