Current Projects

Current quilting project, almost done: a baby quilt for a 40+ yr old friend in California who recently had her first baby,

This was the quilt that DID NOT want to get made. Ever have one of those? First two block attempts were disasterous (not colorful enough, then fabrics didn't go together as well as thought they would), and even after getting the final design down it seemed like every block ran into a problem! This quilt will have minimal quilting because I know I'll run into problems otherwise. LOL

The other current project, non-quilted, though. Am making a set of chemo caps for a friend who recently was diagnosed with cancer. She's had two operations in one month. Two caps done, three more to go. I'm using McCalls pattern 4116.

I also a 'Welcome' wallhanging for the front door. Have all of the letters appliqued (in the hoop designs), now have to start on the side blocks. This was put on hold to make the chemo caps.

Coming up project: graduation quilt for my niece; am still working on finalizing the design in EQ6. Will be her HS colors (red and blue) and I need to get going on this SOON :) Other items on the project list that have not yet been started include new curtins for the living room, a jacket and vest for me (so I can finally use my new dressmaking form!), and a quilted bag.

The project at the top of my list is a summer-weight king size quilt that I hope to have done by...you guess it! Summer. :-) I am machine quilting it now, so there is hope.

As for other projects, I have a quilt top in progress for myself; two tops that need to be quilted; a scrappy quilt that I am hand-piecing (I've worked on it off and on for years--just have 12 more blocks left to piece); and have recently designed a pair of quilts for a couple who are dear friends of mine (I've just begun cutting).

Whew!

No Carol Doak and the one 'book' that I thought I had is instead a package of paper. The other is a book on Mariner's Compass quilts since that is something I'd love to do one day. Did find a pretty good online explanation, though. Didn't get too far yesterday - just auditioning some fabric and a tiny bit of ironing. Probably won't get too far in the next couple of days either due to other things on the agenda. I might stop at 'fabric row' in Philadelphia today as I'll be passing by on my way to/from Delaware. Anyone here been there? I figure it's worth the stop since I'll sort of be in the neighborhood anyhow. From what I've seen online I think it will probably be mostly garment and home dec fabrics but you never know. Just never know what you might stumble over. I must remember to take measurements of my work table so I can get some new foam for under my ironing cover.

Green, black and white. What a fascinating color combination! I usually think in terms of red with black and white (in fact I have a top in those colors waiting to be sandwiched and quilted), but the green with black and would be very striking.
