EQ website challenges

Does anyone participate in these?

I belong to a Yahoo Group that has challenges, but the moderator is. . . . . I don't think I want to go there!

I'd like to belong to a group that works with EQ and does some sharing, helping, challenging, encouraging, coaching. Kind of like the way the banter and help and sharing photos atmosphere is here. (Y'all have properly spoiled me.)

I just chanced to see this post as I haven't been on line much for the past few days.

We have a "Virtual Quilting" group on Yahoo that used to have swaps and challenges. We have all been a bit quiet lately but if I get back up to speed I might rattle the cage and wake everyone up soon lol

If you post a question to the group someone will always pop up with an answer - and yes, I think we are all from rctq. There is a mix of EQ4, EQ5, EQ6 and QuiltPro users. Pictures from the challenges and Round Robins are posted for members, and there are lists of handy links and contacts for users of each program.

It's a private group, but only to screen out the spam. So if you would like an invite to join just send me an email (the address below is easy to interpret) and I will send one off.

Yep Kay- a friend recommended I join that challenge group and I think I'm going to be Un-joining...

Are you in the Carol Doak yahoo group too? I like it better....

Ya caught me!!! The digest came out this morning with my comments from last evening. I've gotten some individual emails -- all supportive. But I don't want to belong to a group that has that kind of environment. I'll probably get kicked out anyway!! ROTFL

Yes, I belong to the Carol Doak Yahoo Group. Yes, it definitely is much better. And now we can post pictures of virtual quilts there. Carol set up a special album, so I noticed this morning. I'm the same person everywhere -- "kayahr" login and "Kay Ahr in NV" signature.

During my run in the park this morning, I think I found the best photo opportunity for the latest EQ site challenge. We have a drive-in south of the park then a casino/resort high-rise in the background. The movie screens are white and gray, the high-rise white with orangey windows, and then there are the trees. The park path is a little lower than the drive-in parking area, so it looks like there are trees sprouting up between the screens and with orange high-rise in the background. Give me a few minutes and I'll have a few photos in my Paradise Park Album on Webshots. I could use some of Carol Doak's flowers for the movie screens.

I have participated in a challenge or two at EQ but haven't in ages. They really are fun and some people are so very talented --it is just amazing what they can do with that program. I wish I could have entered this particular one:

but I just didn'tget around to it. You had to illustrate a game for the challenge. Mary in VT

I saw that, Kay. I'm in that group, too; I joined because I thought it would be fun. I think the moderator is a pretty regimented soul (more so than I am, which is saying a lot!) and probably makes the rules in order to keep things clear, since she moderates *lots* of groups. Unfortunately, having so many rules is more confusing than anything else, and her tone when she writes comes across as more severe than she may realize. :S

I like Carol's group, but I think it's changed a lot since it began last year, which is probably normal. Last year Carol was able to help us more with questions and advice, but now that there are so many members it's just impossible. :S

That looks good, Kay! BTW, if you're interested in an EQ list, one on which the EQ tech support is really good and on which all of these challenges and lots of other things are mentioned, you might want to join info-eq. I'm on that one, too, and it's really very good. The authors of all of the supplemental books for EQ hang out there, so you can always get good help. :)

Ohmigosh! I loved the Kokopelli ones on the last page and the Monopoly one on the middle set of pages. I think my skills would have limited me to Four Squares!

I think she knows how severe she is -- her excuse one time was that it's the fault of the person she is communicating with. That it's their problem about what they read into what she has said. Maybe she's better in person when she's out training people face-to-face. But I certainly would not pay for any class that she teaches. I think she has a lot to learn about customer service. But I wouldn't want her in any of my customer service classes!

I joined one other group that she moderates. Same rules there. I haven't gotten a digest in ages. Doesn't even look like there have been any challenges for a couple of years. There have been 18 messages in the month of June -- that's not even one a day.

I subscribed to the Info-EQ list several months back and have just been saving them. Couldn't figure out how to get to an archive. When I first signed up, I had no idea what people were talking about. Now I have a little bit of an idea! :-) I'll have to start focusing on that group.

Meanwhile, must cut some baseball fabrics!

I've submitted designs to several of the ClubEQ challenges. The challenges are a great way to force yourself to become more familiar with how EQ works.

I've been a member of Info-EQ ever since I first bought EQ -- I started in ummmm '99? Or maybe early 2000, with EQ4. The Info-EQ group is very helpful -- never a stupid question, and the EQ staff post messages regularly. They also ask the group for input on future releases and other topics. It is a strictly on-topic list, so if you want general quilt chat, or conversation about totally NQR (Not Quilt Related) topics, it isn't the group for you. It is specifically EQ, too -- so folks who use a different design program won't find much there.

If you want quilting AND off topic conversation, I recommend three: Quilting Beehive

medium- to high-volume but not overwhelming); DJQuilters

low- to medium-volume), and Pickle Road Studio

very high volume and often WAY off topic. The list is "owned" by Mark Lepinski, creator of Quilters Home Magazine. Calling him "irreverent" would be a *huge* understatement). Kay, I too subscribed to info-eq but the format really has me stumped. Tonight, I posted a message in info-eq asking for tips and hints on how to use the unique (and confusing to me) format of the group.

Jerry (and any other interested parties)...

Technically, the Info-EQ group is a mailing list, not a newsgroup. When you subscribe, you select either the individual message format OR the digest format. In either case, all of the messages sent in by group members are distributed via email to all of the other members of the group. If you subscribe to individual messages, every messages arrives in your inbox just about as soon as it is sent by the writer. If you subscriber to the digest version, then each night (in the U.S., anyway), one message is sent to you and it contains ALL of the messages from the members that have been sent in since the previous digest was distributed.

The messages are not threaded. They come to you in the order in which they are sent in. So, in the digest, you will see the messages in what appears to be a random arrangment. The order is actually chronological.

To post a message to the mailing list, just send an email message to the Info-EQ address ( snipped-for-privacy@lyris.planetpatchwork.com) -- of course, you need to be a member of the Info-EQ list in order to do this.

Does this answer your questions? If not, please ask away and I'll do my best to provide a clear response!

I do. I find them a great way to learn the programme. I wouldn't say my designs have been all that inspiring at times, but some have been okay. The main thing is that I learned a lot from each challenge I entered. Also, the bonus is that you receive the EQ files for every single entry submitted. That means you could have 150 or so quilt designs to admire, work out how they created it, put into a slide show or even make for real. Put in one design, get maybe 150 back, and learn and discover new things while you're doing it. Got to be a good deal, doesn't it?

It does sound like a good deal! Lately I've had some issues participating in "things" -- if it sounds too good to be true, it is. That kind of thing.

I've got my first entry for the Club-EQ Challenge ready. I just need to fill in the notecards. And somewhere on my computer is a nice little paragraph about what photo inspired the color choices. Somewhere!!

Thanks for your input.
