My first quilt was for me. It was in greens and creams and I made it in

1997. It still lives on my bed. But last year I decided it was time for a new one so I made the "IDon't Like It Quilt" and the name is self-explanatory. By the time it was finished I couldn't see myself ever sleeping underr it. So it found a good home with my SIL who loves it. I've been collecting burgundy and green and cream fabrics to make another one for me, but so far haven't found the pattern that inspires me. In the meantime I continue with the quilts I make with others in mind. One day soon.......

I love scrappy quilts! I can't begin to tell you how many I have made. I am right now cutting up scraps again and making 4" charms for the moment. I can't believe the amount of scraps I have???? I can't figure how I ever got so many???? The scrap basket seems to keep growing but the stash cabinet for the yardage never gets smaller???? You figure it. I have the fisrt 20 blocks of another scrappy quilt laying on the floor right now. (No pics or comments on what it is until it is done). I do know that I will be making a sawtooth finish on it and that is why I have been cutting so many 4" charms. I believe I will have a colorful quilt for myself at last!!! Of course I have a number of other patterns that should be colorful all planned out to do over the next few weeks. I have an orange one, a purple one, and a turquoise one that are at the top of the list to be cut and pieced while my roommate is in Florida and I can make all the mess I want. julia

Judy you have a friend that scrappy quilts! You can share scraps or even trade scraps with her! What surprises await both of you. Years ago when I belonged to a quilt guild that was something we did. A pound in- a pound out. They went into a barrel and got swished around and it was amazing what you went home with on scrappy day. Right now I am on overload with my scraps though. I have been donating many of them to the local senior center. I suppose if I didn't save as much as I do it might be different. The one thing that makes scrappy quilts scrappy is the surprise and that you take what you pull out. I start with all my pieces in a bag then just put and that is the next piece that go into what I am doing. right now I need light pieces and dark pieces so I have 2 bags, one for the dark and one for the light. Then when I am putting things together as long and no 2 colors end up in the same block I am happy. (or next to each other). Try to suprise yourself, you may find the scraps you have at home are just right. BTW it looks like this scrappy quilt will give me a colorful quilt, just like I want. julia

I want pics of ALL of them Julia! :-) Going to be needing to buy some turquoise fabrics myself. Planning to make a quilt for a friend. His favorite color is turquoise.

The one I am making right now is 'very' rich in colors. It is a scrappy and I decided to use the loudest, brightest colors possible, wherever I possibly can in the quilt. One of the things I have to get away from is using WOW on Cream on White as background pieces in many of my quilts. I think that is why so many of my quilts (IMHO) look washed out. There is no reason that any other fabric cannot be used as the background fabrics. I just have to teach myself to do it. The most neutral quilt I believe I ever made is one I am staring at right now. It is in oranges, brown, tans and lighter brown colors with unbleached muslin as the background. I even hand died the back fabric in a yellow/orange flowing color. The quilt is lovely and ideal for some of the men in my world but at this point is has a happy home right here. julia

then just follow the quilting links. I justfinished a top today, about 2 hours ago and it is folded for now untilI get it sandwiched for quilting. I want to mak a couple more topsover the next couple weeks then I will sit back and just quilt awayuntil they are done. I still have hundreds of 4" squares to cut forthis quilt as I am going to give it a sawtooth finish. My nextproject will not be a scrappy quilt however. I am going to make onein purples. I have the palet all set up and ready to go. Now it isdeciding on the blocks I want to use or the design I want to do. Ihave a lot of ideas wandering lose in my brain right now. julia

LOTS of lovely quilts on your page, Julia! I especially liked the one called Tea Leaves. What a neat pattern.

I'm partial to purple myself. :-) I'm making a pair of quilts for a couple with whom I've been friends for a very long time. He likes turquoise, and she likes purple and pink. So I'm in design mode. I've bene using EQ to try out different color schemes to go along with each of their favorites.
