Frank's Christmas List

Okay, I'm starting this list a little early this year. This will ensure that I... uh, your quilt hero, can have a list in hand for early, online purchases. Something you can use the old alphabet magnet on and stick it to the fridge. This year, Beautimous Brenda and Mini Me (our twenty year old college junior daughter) have got a brand, new house with a 2000 square foot basement, 1500 sq ft of which is a sewing studio. The room is wired for computer, television, has a set up for a washing machine to do felting, 36' of shelving (6' high and 18" deep), two custom cutting tables, an exercise room, and the bathroom will be finished next year (hey, if I finished it now, the only time they would come upstairs is for food). In addition, there's a brand new Gammil, I'll be putting up the Grace frame and Juki this weekend, and finally, I've registered the domain for new company name; "Eye Candy Quilting." So now I ask the important question, what do I get her for Xmas? What would you like for Xmas? Big, small, new and exciting on the market. What is John bringing to the fray? Right now, the small things are really big. The economy is tight for all of us and I'll be spending a few bucks on our 25th anniversary trip to Calgary and Banff. Please submit your suggestions to this thread and I'll put them together into a list on Thanksgiving. Have a blast! Frank Reid

A gift of time. Free up her existing responsibilities/duties as she needs, to allow for feverish pitched bouts of creativity and gotta- finish-this-today! inclinations. Take over the cooking/cleaning/ errands/laundry/yardwork as the situation dictates.

Sounds like she has everything else! What a good DH you are.

Some aromatherapy diffusers to distribute about the place (one will not be enough in this size of room) and her favorite array of essential oils . Very relaxing and uplifting for a work area (or even for a play area - and this will be both I see).

When I read wool felting... and budget... the first thing that went through my mind was... hit the local thrift shops... look for wool skirts or jackets (you can get lots of wool for not a lot of money). You can often find wool in a variety of colors this way.

Just a thought!

Hi Frank Seems to me you might be missing a QI or two. (You and Mini Me don't count) Perhaps Brenda would like to have a QI to keep her company when you are not around? (QI = quilt inspector = pet)

Goodness, Frank, what's left??? I was going to suggest a trip somewhere, but you have that covered with your anniversary, so have a happy one! (DH and I celebrated 36 years in July. How did that happen???)

On that note, we have Topaz, or Blond Dog as I like to call him. Topaz is 15 lbs of half dachshund and half maltese. Looks like the wish dragon in the "neverending story." There is also Izzy, 16 lbs of pure black cat that enjoys chasing Brenda 'round the house. Izzy has a favorite toy that he will drag around the house till you play with him. The shelves have 4 feet of storm fence in front of them to keep these two vicious animals from using the fabric for nappy time. Frank

Thread.... Check out the Superior Threads site. See about establishing a business account for discount purchases and a selection of thread on cones to use on the long arm. LAVA (Long Arm Variegated Art) thread is gorgeous, and designed for use on long arm machines. King Tut is wonderful, too, and works well on all machines. And there is lots more available there too.

OK, here is mine:

A contract for my new job (same place, new position, once paperwork is done, otherwise no job)

Some bobbins (always need more bobbins)

A book by my favourite Swedish author (who published 2 books without telling me!)

Really, this is what is on my current list for Christmas.

I know what I would like. Its the new Sew Slip . Makes free motion slide nicely. Sometimes Brenda might want to do a little F M. Congrats on the silver. Just got back from US with DH celebrating 40 years!

A trip to a day spa -- or a weekend. Total pampering and attention, head to toe. A few CD's of her favorite music A new pillow -- we spend so much time making bed coverings and then forget to replace our ragged, lumpy pillows

Storage, storage and more storage. Containers, hooks on walls, picture hooks in the right spot for rulers if needed. A lovely roll of thread that is just the right colour, extra bobbins for her sewing machine, lots of stitch rippers - not just one, a back rub, a dozen dinners frozen in the freezer to give extra time to quilt on items she wants to quilt, a set of new pigma markers and someone to go through all the old stuff that is dried out and throw them out.

Oh so many things. A new bottle of fresh sewing machine oil. A subscription to one of the online quilting shows if that is her things.

A gift certificate to one of the quilt stores in Calgary that she can spend then and a promise to give her time in it.

A clock for the sewing room that is large.

Little thing? Cards and envelopes with pictures mounted on them of some of her quilts (perhaps taken around the house with them on racks, on the back of a couch etc.). My sister made me a bunch of these of my favorite plants in my old garden. I haven't bought a card this year and they are so personal. The blank cards and matching envelopes comes in every price range and colour.

Hopefully these help (I am sending this to my family - great question).

How about a generous gift certificate to either a local quilt shop - or if that's not practical a gift certificate for

There are lots of on-line fabric stores.

always has sales & I believe all their fabric is discounted. Or a gift certificate for

- she could get just about anything her heart desires at Amazon. How about theater tickets if she enjoys the theater? Does she enjoy buying clothes? Does she have a favorite store? A gift certificate there would be nice. (Personally,

is my favorite clothing store, so that's where I would want a gift certificate to come from.)

Sounds like you have given her everything her little heart could desire, so you have created quite a challenge for yourself:) Good luck Frank!

I thought of something else. How about an all expense paid trip to Paducah or Houston next year for the really big quilt shows, if she hasn't already been to them?

KAI scissors. I just got a set and they are the sharpest scissors I've ever owned. They cut fingers real well!!!!!! How about a couple of unique bird feeders to hang outside the window, so she can enjoy live action, esp. in the winter. Gen
